    I agree. Yordan offensively has been a beast and if the Astros win the division, I think he gets it. Crazy to think that Detroit has Dingler at 5.2 WAR and McGonigle at 4.7 WAR (4th and 5th best WAR in baseball amongst positional players). If Tigers win the division, you think one of them could be considered?

    If they could steal this one off Rasmussen, would be nice! Scherzer has pitched better as of late which is encouraging. Hopefully he gives us a solid 5 innings!

    Yeah Jackson Merrill in 2024 during his rookie season was looking like a star. The past two seasons, he's been boring like you said. Even despite the offensive struggles, still going to post a +3 WAR season. Still only 23, but hasn't looked anywhere close to the 5-6 WAR type of player we saw in 2024.

    Henry Davis - what a disaster haha. Wouldn't write off Jackson Jobe just yet. Just came back from injury and still only 24. Cowser is still young enough to bounce back, but he's looking like he could go the way of Jeremy Hermida haha. I still like Lawlar - just needs to stay healthy. Kumar Rocker is having a meh season. Matt McLain still has the raw tools for a breakout. Just needs to put it altogether. McGreevy has been solid, but nothing special. Gavin Williams looks like he's the best out of that bunch. Has ace-level upside at least. Colson Montgomery looks legit and could get better. Joe Mack looks really good as well. Already 2.2 WAR in 76 games.

    Going 2–4 on this road trip likely wouldn’t bury them, but we’re at the point of the season where you’re running out of games and need to bank as many wins as possible. I know the schedule gets easier after this trip, but you can’t just take that for granted and assume they’re going to walk all over those teams especially with this lineup. We’ve seen plenty of times in baseball that an “easy” opponent doesn’t automatically translate into a series win. So take whatever you can get right now, even against Tampa and New York. If the Jays can come out of this six-game road trip at 3–3, I’d consider that a huge success.

    The real test comes now against Tampa Bay on the road. After the strides they made during this homestand, you can’t afford to give it all right back with a poor series in Tampa and then another bad one in New York next weekend. Win both of these road series and then we're getting more serious. Worst case, you’ve got to come out of this road trip at least 3–3 to stay within reach.

    Tough loss, but if you told me at the beginning of the week that the Jays would take 3 of 4 from the Red Sox and 2 of 3 from the Yankees, I think every Jays fan would’ve taken that without hesitation. Going 5–2 against two divisional rivals is a very successful homestand, regardless of how frustrating the final game was.

    Under the old playoff format of three division winners plus one Wild Card, Jays fans were complaining about that system back in the 2000s too. With the Yankees and Red Sox routinely dominating the AL East, Toronto basically had no realistic path to the postseason unless they put together an elite season. The Jays won 86 games in 2003 and 87 games in 2006 yet by this point in those seasons, they were essentially already out of contention and playing meaningless baseball. That’s why I prefer the expanded playoff format. You can argue six teams per league is too many when the AL is as weak as it is this year, but at least good teams aren’t basically eliminated by August simply because they happen to play in a stacked division. We wouldn't be saying the same about the NL right now, where all 6 teams who make the Postseason are all pretty strong, even the teams battling for the third Wild Card.

    Every season is different. It’s definitely surprising how weak the AL has been this year, but it’s not like this happens every season. The balance of power fluctuates from year to year. The NL has been much stronger this season. You’ve got two teams tied for the third Wild Card spot at a .532 winning percentage, which would actually be good enough to lead both the AL Central and AL West right now. The Jays are pretty fortunate they’re in the AL during a year when the league has been a dumpster fire. If they were in the NL with the exact same record, they’d probably be something like six games back of the final Wild Card instead of right in the middle of the race.

    I agree with cycling Valenzuela and Kirk through the DH spot once or twice a week. Valenzuela especially needs to be in the lineup more consistently if they want to get his bat going. And yeah, you really don’t want Sanchez facing LHP, which is why it makes sense that he’s not in the lineup today.

    The bullpen looks pretty taxed right now, but Varland and Fluharty should hopefully still be available. Even if it means working three days in a row, their pitch counts have been low enough that you could probably use them again if needed. Rogers I’m not so sure about.

    Huge win today! Have a chance with Cease on the mound for the sweep tomorrow, but regardless, taking 2 of 3 against the Yankees a huge success!

    Would have been cool to see Schlittler vs. Cease in a battle of AL Cy Young contenders. Feels like this one will be tough, but if we could sneak out a win here, that would be huge.
