  1. And you believe that? Another passed ball, at least 5 strikes taken away from Rogers the other night because JPA can't receive. He's bad no matter what teammate positive words of encouragement have been tossed his way. Commentators? Not even worth it! The most knowledgable of our bunch is Zaun and Zaun got tossed out of a game in his final season as a player for arguing that a hit batter shouldn't get first base because the ball bounced first. Good grief!!
  2. Rogers has 50-60 innings left in his arm for the entire rest of the season. Be aware.
  3. Romero has always had bad mechanics. He sling shots his arm, puts strain on his elbow and comes across his body that is falling toward first base. He finally hurt the elbow and spent most of 2012 short arming pitches. So they fix his mechanics and try to get him to pitch correctly. Guess what? He was more wild than he was short arming the ball pitching in pain. Ok, so now he's just doing what he always did and it'll honestly probably work and we will see the old Ricky... for 1-2 years until the elbow gets all torn up.
  4. Thanks. Here's one for you and it is a total trick question. This one caused a rule change because of an accidental overthrow at the Wendlestedt Umpire School in the late 80s. Runner on first is attempting to steal. Line drive is hit to right fielder who makes a diving catch. Runner from first has rounded second. The right fielder now tries to throw to first and fires the ball into the dugout. Where is the runner placed? Clue: runners get 2 bases from the time of the throw being released.
  5. We have one of the worst catchers in baseball.
  6. I'd trade Sanchez for him and laugh. You're talking about a prospect v the second best defensive catcher in the AL, who also happens to only be 26. Arencibia + Nolin + more and yep, I'd do it.
  7. No one likes the idea of going after Castro?
  8. Make a too good to refuse offer to Houston for Jason Castro.
  9. Hmmm well I'm not going to worry about it.
  10. Reyes was aiming for the 27th v Boston a few weeks ago. Now the 24th seems to be the date. That's amazing! I don't think that the club really expected him back until a week into July. * I personally wouldn't be shocked to see him return on the Sunday for the last game v Baltimore
  11. Don't confuse what I'm saying. I'm not saying that he's good. I'm saying that he has a history of messing hitters up that don't know him. For 1 and I do mean just 1 spot start, if I needed a guy, I'd go to him. History suggests the result would be far greater than what his talent would suggest. Don't discount what an unknown with a funky delivery can do. I'd DFA him the next day!
  12. 9:01c. This would not be allowed. The umpire would call time, even if the batter didn't ask for it, which he would.
  13. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/quiz/_/id/4979/do-know-mlb-rules#top
  14. It's actually an appeal play and not a force out even though the runner was forced to second base. The batter is actually credited with a single and not a fielder's choice. On a force play it would be a FC. And no, I didnt lie. Lol. I did notice that on my copy and paste the little green checks didn't show up. I have the link still, if that works??
  15. He's not going past 100 innings this year so does it really matter at this point? You can't have him make a gigantic jump in innings and expect anything other than him ending up with a dead arm. I do think that he's shown that he is more comfortable as a starter and that his 3rd pitch is good enough to be a starter. He's probably just one of those guys who's better with long toss before a game, followed by a longer warm up. I didn't like him at all out of the pen to be honest and I'm not sure that his success will translate back to the pen. I say that he's a starter and perhaps a decent one but those innings are racking up and this can't go on all season.
  16. I will say this, if we catch another injury or end up with a doubleheader makeup and need a spot start, I'd love to see them give it to Austin Bibens-Dirkx. He is not a real prospect and likely hasn't much of a MLB future, if one at all but for 1 game I'd be sneaky and use him. His multiple release points, sometimes sidearm and his offspeed stuff is generally baffling to hitters until they see him a few times. He is having a very good year but he is 28 at AA and has had trouble in the past at the AAA level. Again, not a real prospect, well maybe as a reliever but he's nothing special. But, for one sneaky start and a likely outcome of 5-7 very easy innings as hitters try to figure him out, absolutely!
  17. I expect that Hutchison will be a September call up but Im not sure if he'll pitch any meaningful innings. His rehab should start in August and may even be cut short due to seasons ending.
  18. Who knows with injuries. I wouldn't be shocked to see Stroman get September starts.
  19. I think that we can all just assume Drabek will not be in the mix no matter what. Over 75% of starting pitchers who return from having 2 Tommy John Surgeries do so as relievers and fewer than 5% start during their first year back from the second operation. You simply don't stretch out guys to start this early after 2 TJS, if ever.
  20. Lol don't be silly. Copy/ paste below. They weren't that hard for me but I learned this stuff a long time ago. Also note that on the Neil Walker scoring question that he can be put out on appeal when the new ball is put in play if he forgets to tag up. This sometimes happens when runners are awarded bases. They assume they don't need to tag up because the umpire awarded them a base. Paste... Updated: Jun 18, 2013, 2:55 PM Quiz: Do you know MLB rules? Thank you for taking the quiz. See below for your results and the results from across SportsNation. Your responses in bold text. Total Participants: 225833 1) The Phillies have Ben Revere on second base and no outs when Michael Young hits a shot to Reds third baseman Todd Frazier, who is playing at normal depth. On the pitch, Revere attempts to steal third and is hit by the batted ball while sliding into the base. Even though Revere was on third base when struck by the batted ball, he should be called out because he interfered with Frazier and kept him from making a play. True or false? False 58.9% True 41.1% 2) The Indians have Michael Bourn on first base and one out when Nick Swisher launches a fly to deep center field. Bourn rounds second base and then tries to retreat to first base thinking the ball will be caught by Yankees center fielder Brett Gardner. But Gardner can't reach the ball and, in the process, Swisher heads to second base and is about to pass Bourn, who is returning to first base. Swisher, realizing the ball was not caught, pushes Bourn toward second. Bourn reaches second safely while Swisher returns to first. Swisher should be called out for making contact with Bourn and assisting him on the bases. True or false? False 50.2% True 49.8% 3) The Cubs have Starlin Castro on second and Welington Castillo on first and no outs when Darwin Barney bunts the ball about 20 feet in the air. Mets pitcher Matt Harvey allows the ball to fall to the ground untouched and starts a 1-5-4-3 triple play. There is no argument, but the umpires should have called the infield fly rule to protect the runners. True or false? True 52.8% False 47.2% 4) The Astros bat out of order in the first inning, as they do not follow the lineup card submitted to the plate umpire prior to the game. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly does not appeal the batting out of order since no runner reached base. Astros manager Bo Porter can correct the mistake and have his team bat in proper order the remainder of the game without penalty. True or false? False 52.5% True 47.5% 5) The Pirates have Neil Walker on third base and one out when Pedro Alvarez hits a fly ball near the stands along the third-base line. Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre makes a leaping catch and falls into the stands, holding on to the ball. The catch should count, but as soon as Beltre falls into the stands, time should have been called and Walker should have been sent home and allowed to score. True or false? False 66.5% True 33.5% 6) The Angels have the bases loaded and no outs. Kansas City's infield is playing in when Josh Hamilton hits a shot that gets by Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer and hits Albert Pujols, who is immediately behind Hosmer and headed to second base. Even though the ball strikes Pujols, he should not be called out because no other infielder had a chance to make the play after the ball got past Hosmer. True or false? False 73.3% True 26.7% 7) The Twins have the bases loaded and two outs when Justin Morneau wallops a grand slam. Josh Willingham, the runner on first base, misses second base as he circles the bases. The Athletics appeal that Willingham missed second base, and the appeal is upheld. Willingham is called out. The Twins should score two runs on the play. True or false? False 52.8% True 47.2% 8) The Red Sox have Dustin Pedroia on second and no outs. David Ortiz is the batter facing White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana, who does not make a complete stop in his set position. Umpire Dale Scott yells, "Balk," but Quintana delivers the pitch and Ortiz crushes it for a home run. Because Quintana balked, the ball is dead, the home run is nullified and Pedroia is sent to third base. Ortiz must remain in the batter's box with the same count as before the balk occurred. True or false? True 79.2% False 20.8% 9) The Blue Jays are playing the Padres. In the eighth inning, Jays manager John Gibbons goes to the mound to remove R.A. Dickey. He brings in Chad Jenkins and spends some time going over the situation with the reliever. Gibbons walks back toward the dugout and crosses the foul line when he decides he wants to give further instructions to Jenkins. Gibbons should not be allowed to do this because it would give him two trips to the mound with the same batter at bat. True or false? True 71.2% False 28.8% 10) The Orioles have Nick Markakis on third and no outs when Chris Davis hits a ground ball to Mariners second baseman Nick Franklin and is out 4-3. On the play, Markakis scores from third. But plate umpire Todd Tichenor calls catcher's interference on Mariners catcher Jesus Sucre. Tichenor carries out the penalty of the rule and sends Markakis back to third and awards Davis first base. Orioles manager Buck Showalter informs Tichenor that he wants to take the play instead of the penalty. This means that Showalter trades the out for the run. Tichenor does not allow Showalter to do this, claiming the ball is dead the moment Davis' bat makes contact with the catcher's mitt. The umpire is correct. True or false? True 73.3% False 26.7%
  21. The third out is an appeal play but an appeal at a base a runner was forced to advance to. The batter is not credited with a homer run.
  22. YOUR SCORE 100% You answered 10 out of the 10 questions correctly (shown in bold). Total Participants: 225091 Average Score: 0%
  23. I like Wong. I was hoping that we'd draft Wong. That said, JJ, even with his injury history and even in his walk year has a higher trade value. The Cards would trade Wong straight up in a heartbeat and laugh. Toss in a reliever and you get Tyrell Jenkins too.
  24. 59-34 for 92 wins suddenly doesn't seem impossible. It won't be easy but it's somewhat realistic. The last 14 games of the season are v the division and there are still 7 games v the Astros on the sched.
  25. The tone of this thread sure is changing and I'm feeling less lonely.
