  1. Can someone confirm what the rules are for this? Seems like there should be some sort of compensation if Haren retires?
  2. Every GM makes mistakes. Most people didn't like the return for Price. The Shields trade IMO will be poor in hindsight but we have to wait on Myers still. That's just off the top of my head.
  3. So they should totally punt their season because they are long shots? You'd make a great GM.
  4. Ok, and expecting a guy who's never played above AA to come and be an average MLB player is a bit of a stretch. I'm not saying he'll be terrible, but the potential for him to be is there. Which was my whole point from 2 pages ago... they should get someone at least serviceable for either 2B or CF.
  5. Naw, I'm not putting his ceiling at 2 WAR. I said that next season I think getting a little more than 2 WAR out of him would be considered a "great case".
  6. I'm sure they have some reasons to be optimistic about how his game will translate, but expecting Travis to put up 2 WAR is absolutely nuts IMO. In reality nobody has too much of a clue how useful he will be- possibly a little above 2 WAR (great case), and possibly quite negative. Does anyone else not understand how that's his projection?
  7. Izturis could potentially be useful. The pre-injury Izturis wasn't the worst. But for sure, this is why they need to make a deal.
  8. Travis hasn't played above AA, and Pompey has something like 100 ABs above AA. It depends on how they look in spring, but giving them both starting gigs is completely stupid.
  9. They stretched him out in spring of 2013 and he didn't stick. Not that it's his choice but he hated the idea of starting. Also, I have doubts over how his stuff will play as a starter. It seems like his repertoire would be suited for closing, but that's just my feeling.
  10. Yeah, Pillar is terrible and I don't think he has any potential to be a good hitter. But I'll be surprised if both Pompey and Izturis/Goins are the starters on opening day. Ideally they could get a better 4th OFer, someone who can not be a black hole if/when Pompey needs to be sent down. Rajai Davis was perfect for this role. Eric Young has been mentioned in rumors. Hasn't played much CF but I believe he is at least capable.
  11. When he was younger though, he has a longer track record of not walking everyone. Miller had a high BB/9 in 2012-2013 and earlier.
  12. I don't see where his velocity declined. Miller is nice and all, Robertson is more proven and I think he is a truly elite reliever. Miller had an elite season, but had control problems before. He could be great for years but it's easier for me to be sold on Robertson for the next 4 years.
  13. That's a terrible deal for the Yankees. I would have just given Robertson the extra money he'd require.
  14. Rays hire former Jays catcher Kevin Cash. Interesting move, but has to be better than Wakamatsu, right?
  15. I am by no means a Richard Griffin fan but this article sums it up nicely: http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2014/12/03/jays_obtain_canadian_fielder_michael_saunders_griffin.html
  16. There's criticism over almost any top name free agent and the contract the receive. Lester will be over 30 but has a track record of pitching plenty of innings and also in the AL East. I'm sure there's more "efficient" ways to spend dollars, but the truth is the Jays lack a proven top of the rotation pitcher. I'd splurge on Lester before paying an older and less impressive James Shields.
  17. I agree. You have to consider the possibility that they are making a run at Lester.
  18. AA confirms they are out on Melky.
  19. Sounds like Melky is for sure gone now. Not that it was likely he'd return, but AA says Saunders will be the LFer.
  20. Medlen's out until June apparently. As much as I am a big fan I don't see a fit. Beachy should be ready in spring though.
  21. Haha thanks for that. I remember that game, it was a Friday night IIRC.
  22. +1 does anyone know this? There's a chance he starts in CF.
  23. Thanks yes I had no clue wtf that was lol. Makes much more sense now.
  24. This is sweet IF they spend all the money they just saved. Making a run at Lester?
  25. Some posters and fangraphs are telling me he's not very good defensively. He passes my eye test, granted only during Felix's starts. Plus he is 6'4, so should be passable at the very worst.
