Wow, they are going video game mode here. It's impressive that they've been able to construct all these moves, Padres will be an interesting team to watch.
Totally possible. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he knows something about the guys he's trading and the guys he is getting back that others don't see.
Either way, it looks like they are in a re-tool/rebuild phase but usually in Oakland those don't last long.
You're going based on look. His bat speed isn't very good for a big guy IMO, I wish we could have stats on that. Look at Bautista, Vlad Guerrero, Josh Hamilton (even these days), etc... he's nowhere near elite power hitter level.
You can tell he has terrible bat speed for a big strong guy. A player's look sometimes gives him way too much praise for potential, but really he's garbage.
Let's step away from advanced stats for a sec. Look at the players last year who had around a .390 slugging percentage:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/league/al/sort/slugAvg/count/41/qualified/true
Do you really think Goins can slug near .400? I certainly don't.
Where did you hear this? I do not think they are near their payroll from last year yet, which was supposedly going to increase.
EDIT: I've read the rumours that they might be close, but it's all speculation isn't it?
Welcome. First thing to learn is people bitch about having too many threads. I think it's ******** because I'd rather see the latest news in a new thread so you won't see me complain. It was posted on MLBTR, so not a big deal to make a thread. Don't mind the forum police lol.
If they think Lowrie is decent at 2B hopefully they are trying to sign him. If Reyes goes down, he can cover SS and by then they should know if either Izturis or Travis are capable at second.
This has been brought up 100 times. If they like him at the price, why not sign him? I don't understand the mentality of "we probably suck so let's not try to improve our team at all."
Guys trying to re-establish their value (Masterson) are a way bigger risk than Santana.
Look beyond the stats. This could be an excellent buy low for the Mariners. I'm a believer in Viciedo's potential and a change in scenery might help his terrible approach at the plate.

Source: Royals agree with Kendrys Morales on a two-year deal worth $17M. Performance bonuses could take it up to $18.5M.
How did Morales get that much? I'm baffled. They let Butler go for 3/30.
