    I think the people who want Austin Jackson basically just don't think Saunders will be healthy enough to contribute at all. Bautista also comes with age based injury concerns. Bautista --> old; injury risk Pillar --> the offensive downside is real Saunders --> massive injury risk Pompey --> prospect risk It's not difficult to understand the desire for one more viable OF. Good roster construction involves creating robust rosters that do not crack when faced with adversity. Great roster construction involves creating anti-fragile rosters that can potentially respond positively to adversity. Part of that, sometimes, involves putting talented prospects with options in AAA.

    Burns had minor league seasons where his OBP was well over .400 and he stole ~75 bags. I think he might have actual upside. I would expect his BB% to almost double this year now that his feet are wet. Could also steal 40 I think.

    Reminds me of the Bonifacio guy Holy s*** I just looked up Boni's stats and he had a 79 wRC+ in 2012. AA was attracted to the track star coming off of a 79 wRC+ and then the team anointed him a starter. Mind boggling.

    Well Travis, Martin, Colabello, and Tulo all project for wOBAs in the .326-.334 range. If Pillar can improve his true talent into that range then maybe it's defensible.

    Gibbons is at least pretty quick to make changes if something isn't working. Even if he gifts Pillar the leadoff spot it will probably only last for a couple of weeks, BABIP dragon willing.

    Is Gibbons dead set on those four guys hitting #2-5? It just makes such an awkward lineup, with Martin hitting way down in the 7th slot and a largely inferior guy leading off. It's more annoying than anything.
