  1. Free Cell, I think.
  2. Grant will be pleased.
  3. With our management team's track record of identifying and developing young talent, I don't see how we could lose in such a scenario.
  4. The ability of these four pitchers had very little to do, if anything, with Halladay's departure. I've heard the argument that Halladay's departure allowed these guys to "step up", but I'm not sure how much stock I put into that. Imagine if we hadn't traded Halladay and 5 guys like that in the rotation? I really not sure what you're trying to suggest here; that if we trade Bautista we'll have other outfielders step up? Who? Pillar? Glenn? Gose? Mastro? These guys aren't succeeding because Bautista is blocking them. They're not succeeding because they're not very good, at least relative to what Bautista does for this team.
  5. Probably because getting value for these deals is very difficult to do. I think a lot of people underestimate how good these guys are and how good their contracts are. If the goal is to win, and I hope we can all agree that it is, these are two vital pieces. The problem with this team isn't that they're hanging on to Bautista and Edwin, it's that they've supplemented them with less than ideal pieces, especially value wise. I know a lot of people dream of the kind of talent that elite players can bring back in deals, but if you don't have the management team in place to correctly identify talent (which we don't; an altogether different problem) than what's the point of trading known elite talent for prospects? To be honest, I'd rather the Jays hang on to these guys and try to win, than offer them up for another organization's "track stars", whatever that means.
  6. "Reimold! Go for triple!" - Jose Reyes, from the dugout
  7. We're definitely going to hit into a triple play this game. Definitely.
  8. This makes me very, very, very, very sad. Maybe the Yankees need a shortstop in the post-Jeter era? Their fanbase is already used to that kind of range.
  9. The Jays had a 6 game lead and haven't made the playoffs in 21 years. If they need to fire the manager in order to provide them a wakeup call, then that should tell you everything you need to know about the roster that AA has assembled. Gibbons is not the problem. The lack of offensive depth is the problem. And Reyes. Reyes is also the problem.
  10. My concern isn't so much that we grab Headley and he gets hurt, but more so that he's terrible but the team feels compelled to keep him on the 25 because of his "track record". I get the concept of improving your team where you can, but I'm not sure Headley is worth the time and assets his acquisition would require.
  11. The opportunity cost of acquiring Headley, as Nox states, is probably the biggest concern for me. Is Headley a big enough upgrade to give up assets and a roster spot, and possibly prevent better moves later on? I'm not sure. This team needs to decide if they're in it or not. I can see arguments for either side, but if they think they should go for it, then I think they should aim higher than Headley.
  12. I find it too long; too much preliminary stuff. Maybe if it was four guys, two from each league or something.
  13. Which would pretty much defeat the purpose of making a deal. I can't see the Rays expecting contributing major leaguers in return for Price/Zobrist; more likely guys on the cusp.
  14. Not sure what they're waiting for exactly. I get the feeling that they thought they could forgo bolstering the team in the offseason by hoping that someone like Goins would step up and somehow become a useful player, and hoping that they could avoid as many injuries as they've ended up having. Basically, the baseball equivalent of hiding under a pile of coats and hoping that everything just works out.
