  1. I think you put it very well. I particularly agree with the way he handled the tough start, he kept calm and collected and I think gained a lot of fans in that clubhouse. Then you add the way he put Lawrie in his place and I think the players gained a lot respect for him. You've gotta also like the way he handled Lind early in the year by having him face rhp almost exclusively, then Lind built up his confidence and started hitting some lhp and is now playing every day. Let's hope it stays this way!
  2. It will be the Orioles who decide whether or not there is an escalation to the incidents the past 2 days. I like what Showalter said after the game, but he might be just posturing in public and he'll drop a hint to some of his pitchers in private. I hope if Bautista gets hit or thrown at, he takes it and goes to 1B and he then tells his pitchers, hey, it's overwith, let's win the game.
  3. Oh and JPA is still a whipping boy. Cecil was fighting to make the team out of ST and he was drafted as a starting pitcher. And why wasn't Bautista handed a job right away in 2008 if the front office, including AA, thought he would break out the way he has? Anyway, no big deal, I just think a lot of luck was involved and DM and even Gaston probably deserve more credit for Bautista and EE than anyone in the F/O.
  4. So go back and look at JPR's teams and tell me the driving forces behind them weren't guys like Halladay, Rios, Wells and others. I'm not a JPR hater by any means, I just think if you apply the same logic, you'll find that every GM inherits pieces from previous management teams. Also, as I said already, AA was hired BY JPR anyway.
  5. Again, the premise of the article is wrong, no matter what anyone here thinks of AA. As I said before, JPA, Lind and I'll add Cecil were whipping boys for the last 2 years and JPA continues to be, so how can they be considered to be driving the team? They lucked the heck out on Bautista and EE. Billy Beane didn't want to sign EE after claiming him off waivers for goodness sake, give me a break. I think the case can better be made by the fact that JPR hired AA, so there you go. Upper management decided they didn't want to wait for the young pitching to develop so they told baseball operations to go out and address the issues and to NOT strikeout in doing so, so AA went out and overpaid in terms of prospects, that's how I see it. Anyone who thinks that AA and his staff don't know they overpaid in the trades, they're mistaken, they simply had to do it to address the decimated pitching staff. Anyway...
  6. Gotta continue playing well against everyone else and straighten out the record against the Yanks in August and that should put them in pretty good shape. You could say the same about the Blue Jays record vs the Rangers (6-1), lol.
  7. Blue Jays record vs Yankees: 1-8. Blue Jays record vs rest of MLB: 36-28
  8. LOL, I just realized I forgot to include 3 against Boston.
  9. Also, pretty funny that everyone's favourite whipping boy, none other than JPA, is considered to be part of the group driving the Blue Jays. He sure looked good blocking that pitch in the dirt during today's game.
  10. AA was a Ricciardi guy, wasn't he? I mean, he was hired by JPR. Also, I think giving credit to anyone for Bautista and EE is a stretch and I include AA in this. Why? Well, Bautista was acquired in 2008 and it's not like he was acquired and given a full time position. If he had been given a full time position and flourished, then I'd see the point, but there was a lot of luck involved. EE was so bad as a 3B that he was released in 2010 (?) and then not resigned by Oakland (I think) and AA brought him back, not gonna give AA credit either, they were lucky. Pretty funny that Lind is mentioned as well. He was pretty bad for the last 2 years so. Weren't Cecil and Janssen starters? Again, don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti Ricciardi guy, but could we not make the same case for Ricciardi's good teams? I mean, didn't he also inherit Halladay, Wells, Rios among others? Anyway...
  11. My hope is that the teams ahead of the Blue Jays in the ALE stay around 10 or less games over .500.
  12. Nolin with a good outing. Threw 104 pitches. This guy missed a month and is probably deserving of a promo to Buffalo.
  13. LOL. Although right now they're the Japanese/Taiwanese Jays.
  14. I had a bit of a problem with him facing the righty there, but the guy is a bad hitter. They seemed to throw the same pitch twice, once for a called strike and the 2nd for a rocket into the lf stands. Overall, I wasn't too upset because if you give up 2 runs in a game, you shouldn't complain.
  15. Bonifacio can also play OF which helps, especially since Cabrera's legs are shot. The fact that Lawrie is out also means that Gibbons will have to continue to mix and match at 2b and 3b although, I believe Kawasaki would play good defense and with his OBP and his ability to make pitchers work, I'd use Bonifacio strictly as a PR late in games when tied or behind by a run.
  16. Don't forget Stilson, oh I see, you said experienced. Stilson does need to improve his command.
  17. Agreed. Also, maybe around the ASB, he'll have a few more good outings thus increasing the chances that someone will give up something for him which would be better than probably losing him for nothing, especially since Loup has options.
  18. I'm in MTL and I see kids wearing hats from time to tome, like yesterday on my way to work.
  19. It just seems like the best option to not lose anyone else for nothing while they try to maybe trade one of the other lefties.
  20. This is the Dominican Jays so this guy is not coming to the Blue Jays.
  21. You don't think they'll option Loup instead of losing Perez for nothing?
  22. You also have to factor in how many people who go to the games wear Jays' merchandise, it's really impressive to see although I guess you could say that about a lot of teams, but there's a lot of potential out there. I think this uptrend in attendance, merchandise sales and interest in the team played a huge role in ownership telling baseball operations to go out and get players and to make sure they didn't strike out on FA's so they had to go and overpay in the trade market. Anyway, good to see.
  23. I think so too, even if they send down Loup, they'd still have 3 lhp in the bullpen, more than enough and he has options. The only concern would be that McGowan would take on a bigger role, but he's got the stuff, it's a matter of time before he pitches better, at least let's hope so.
  24. Yeah, I think it's natural though, he's been hobbled and limping for 2+ months that it may take a bit of time to get back to normal. He has stolen bases, hit triples and doubles, so he's healthy...so let's keep it that way!
  25. Remember though, Boni played mostly OF last year if I'm not mistaken so the transition was far different. Kawasaki is a SS, the hardest position to play on the IF, so it'll be mainly the throw to 1st and the turning of the DP. NL infielders have also struggled with the turf it seems, so there might be something to the adjustment to the turf suggestion.
