    When he got hurt a couple weeks ago I read some of the HFBoards thread. It wasn't an uncommon opinion that it's Vancouver's fault because he's too small and shouldn't be in the NHL. Kid is legitimately one of the best players in the world, right now at 19.

    I really hope they don't expand the rosters. 7-8 arms in the pen is more than enough. September baseball already sucks a big back of dicks because the rosters are enormous.

    It definitely had less baseball talk than any of your other podcasts. I didn't think that made it worse. Just different. If you want something constructive, it would be interesting to hear a couple of you take opposite sides of an issue and discuss it at some length, instead of cracking a joke and moving on to the next topic. Not something planned or anything - just take more time to explore differences in opinion as they come up organically. That makes for interesting conversations to listen to.

    Mark Buehrle was a gem. I hope we still have workhorses like Buehrle going forward.

    I hope it stays that way. I don't mind the opener when you're starting a Gaviglio or Jason Vargas or something, but I hope it doesn't progress to the point where 50% (or more) of games are started by an opener, and essentially bullpen games. I don't really think it's ideal for baseball to have aces, and then a bunch of 2-3 inning guys.

    I get that the opener makes sense. But I don't like it. Mostly as a matter of convenience/tradition. I like being able to scan pitching matchups for the next few games to see what games interest me. I really hope it doesn't become the norm to see a bunch of Ryan Tepera vs. Matt Albers pitching matchups when I look at the probable starters.

    It's a bad look for Duchene. He's 28 in two months and talking s*** about the coaches to a car of rookies and fringe NHLers. Something tells me Chris Wideman wouldn't have been comfortable talking like that in front of 28-year old Alfie or Sundin.

    I'm looking to move a reliever: Dellin Betances Aroldis Chapman A.J. Minter Will Smith Trevor Rosenthal Looking for high-end prospects, though the offer would have to blow me away to get me to move Chapman or Betances.

    Fangraphs top 50 free agent list is out, along with crowdsourced contract projections: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2019-top-50-free-agents/ A lot of the starting pitchers jump out at me as being good targets for Shatkins at their approximate projected contracts: Keuchel 4/80 Morton 2/32 Kikuchi 4/52 Ryu 3/40 Happ 2/30 Cahill 2/15 I'd be thrilled with any of those, and ideally at least two of them. Also, Brantley at 3/45 would be fantastic, and might even be feasible given that he has a history with Shatkins.

    When the Senators waived Condon a few days ago it got me thinking about how many unmovable contracts they have on their roster: Condon (waived and uclaimed) Smith (waived and unclaimed) Burrows (waived and bought out) Ryan Borowiecki Anderson McCormick Pyatt Gaborik (LTIR) MacArthur (LTIR) Dorion has been on the job for 18 months, and 8 of these are his doing.

    I don’t understand the decisions not to qualify Morton or Brantley. Both of those guys should have had value on a 1/18 deal. I’d be disappointed if Shatkins wouldn’t offer some assets for either player on that contract, and they’re one of many teams that could use help from Morton or Brantley.

    We’re at 37 total, after these moves and Jose Fernandez being claimed by Detroit. 36 if you assume Solarte will be non-tendered, which he certainly will be.
