  1. This team has scored the second-fewest runs in baseball and has two viable SPs and is two games out of the playoffs. What an absurd season. So many teams in the AL should be embarrassed about what they've done.
  2. Yeah. There probably aren't 5 guys in baseball you want more than Shapiro in Shapiro's spot. He's good at his job. For reasons I don't completely understand he comes attached to a GM who's competent but also utterly vanilla and unremarkable. You probably wouldn't have to turn over many rocks to find someone who could do a better job than Atkins, especially given how desirable this job should be in this market. But overall I think you just live with what we have - it could be much, much worse.
  3. That's going to cost Baltimore like 5M between his salary for this season and his 2M buyout on a 20M option
  4. It doesn't even feel possible. How is a man that talented and that fat slugging 0.351 with 7 homeruns in over 500 PA at 27 years old? His SLG at Rogers Centre this season is 0.301, HOW?
  5. Has there been a more disappointing individual player season in franchise history? Vernon Wells forgetting hit to hit in 2007 was painful, but he contributed defensively and wasn't signed for half a billion dollars. Josh Johnson's 2013 was a dick punch. But this is just unbelievable
  6. Nobody competent is going to want that job
  7. Oh god this is brutal. The team will probably miss the playoffs by like 1-2 games with Vlad putting up a 1-WAR season and being paid to put up like 5-6. It's insane that this is happening in year 1 of his deal.
  8. wRC+ of all players who have ever played on a 500M+ contact: Shohei Ohtani - 169 Juan Soto - 157 Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - 95
  9. Goddamn that's insane
  10. Joshua Baez has homered in his first two MLB PA
  11. The expanded playoff format sucks. Its offensive that a team that has been this s*** all year is in the playoff picture. We used to mock the NHL for this nonsense.
  12. I know this is Canada, but we don't really use KM/hour to discuss pitching velocity
  13. Feels like just yesterday when Rutschman, Henderson, Holliday, Kjerstad, Cowser, and Mayo were the foundation of a new dynasty. Decent chance none of those guys are even on the team in two years.
  14. I just looked through your post history and you've added nothing of any value since joining. Just negative slop like this. What do you get out of posting here?
  15. If you guys don't IL each other I'm going to ban both of you.
  16. Brewers apparently went pretty hard after Skubal, but Detroit wanted an MLB-ready pitcher. So it probably would have cost them Logan Henderson + good pieces.
  17. Kind of, but not just that. WAR isn’t the best indicator of how a guy will slot into a playoff rotation because it’s a complied stat and in the playoffs you just want the guys with the best arms. Like Chris Bassitt was 47th in SP WAR last year. A clear #2! But really he wasn’t one of Toronto’s 3 or even 4 best starters come playoff time in the context of “who are our best pitchers in an individual game”
  18. Rutschman is a great addition for Boston. I think they'll extend him and finally have that C spot filled for the medium-long term.
  19. I think we might be talking about two slightly different things. You can live with 3 WAR as your second-best SP over the course of the regular season and make the playoffs, absolutely. But a guy who gets to that 3 WAR over a full season of starts might not be a very great #2 in a playoff rotation. For example, I'd rather start Nick Pivetta, Nate Eovaldi, Logan Henderson, Gerrit Cole, probably Trey Yesavage etc... in a playoff game than Soriano and none of those guys are touching 3 WAR this season. Blake Snell is the obvious example of a guy who probably isn't giving you 3 WAR but you're fine with him as your SP2 come playoff time if he's healthy.
  20. Soriano is weird. You watch him pitch a few games and come away thinking he has elite stuff and spotty command. And the results bear that out. Then you look at the pitch-level models and he has 98 STUFF+ and 105 LOCATION+ this year (103 and 102 last year). Curveball has gone from borderline elite in previous years to 91 STUFF+ this year.
  21. I don't think so on a contending team. Soriano right now isn't a guy you want as your #2 going into a playoff series.
