OK, I'm going to try to sell you people on Sandy Alcantara: - he's 23 and sits 95.5 with a 4-pitch mix - he looks like an elite contact manager: 90th percentile exit velocity, and 87th percentile hard hit %. It's how he's managed sub-4 ERAs in the majors despite markedly worse peripherals - he swinging strike % in the majors is sitting at 11.6% He'll need to be promoted before our draft, and I'm not in a great position to roster him while waiting on his command to improve, but there's high end upside here to a team looking more to the future. He's kind of Aaron Sanchez, with actual evidence for contact management skills and no blister issues. I'd like to move him in a deal for a very good reliever.

I guess it's possible he's more comfortable there, but his biggest issue on the corners seemed to be terrible routes, with his arm being his biggest strength. It doesn't seem like something that's going to work very well.

Yeah. You basically nuke the value of prospects when you promote them anyway, to the extent that rotating through potentially interesting MLB players is probably a better use of spots.

If the Dodgers don't want to part with Lux or Ruiz for Giles, they should have no shot at acquiring him. Zero reason to move one of the best relievers in baseball for a couple of mediocre pitching prospects. -

Everything I've heard from Mark Shapiro makes me think he understands what it takes to build a healthy MLB team, and there's a large body of evidence of that in Cleveland. He's also a good communicator. I trust him in the role of President. At this point, our faith in Shatkins is really just faith in Mark Shapiro and his opinion of Atkins, because the Atkin's track record to this point is not impressive, and we're going on 4 years. I'd be pretty disappointed if Shapiro were fired, but if Shapiro decided to fire Atkins, I wouldn't be the least bit disappointed. I don't even know what the dynamic between the two is though. If Atkins loses 105 games with no development from the MLB roster, would his job be in jeopardy? Or is Atkins Shapiro's guy for better or worse, and completely safe in his position regardless of his performance?

I wonder at what point we're going to see a public acknowledgement from Atkins or Shapiro that this is unacceptable and that the front office has to be better. If the team continues to collectively hit like Ryan Goins and loses 100+ games, they won't be able to keep pretending like this is part of the process and everything is going to plan. I get that this is a rebuild, but this is embarrassing and decidedly NOT what the plan was.
