“The Blue Jays are widely expected to field offers for both Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez, and The Athletic’s Jayson Stark even wrote today that Toronto has “signaled they could be aggressive” in trying to move both. For a team in their position, there’s little reason to hang onto the duo beyond the 2019 season and plenty of reason to explore the market earlier rather than later. The Jays aren’t contending this season, both starters are healthy, and it’s unlikely that an additional month is going to dramatically alter a rival team’s evaluation of the righties.” I don’t care about Sanchez, but Stro (and Giles, though he’s not mentioned here) are critically important decisions for Shatkins. Both trades and extensions should be on the table, and if he goes the trade route it has to be elite offensive talent brought back.

Martin worked out very well. There have been a few other big FA signing that have well. Off the top of my head. Scherzer, Greinke, JDM, Lester, Zobrist, Encarnacion, Cruz, Turner. As we displayed with Martin, the ability to dip into the FA market for a major piece is an ability we have that some AL rivals don't: we have the financial flexibility to go out an get an impact player that teams like Minnesota TB, and Oakland can't. You just have to make sure you're committing to the right player. If Rogers will once again allow a top-10 payroll, I really hope Shatkins leverages that into serious bids for top FA talent when the time is right.

The Jays payroll in 2017 was over 170M. It would have been over 200M with Price. He started 11-games and was worth 1-2 wins. Toronto won 76 games. It would have taken a payroll of like 300M to get the 2017 or 2018 teams to the playoffs, and David Price would have barely moved the needle.

Since the war over McHugh and Gonzales, McHugh hasn’t pitched due to a sore elbow and Gonzales is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA and 5.55 xFIP.

OK, let's look at some payroll numbers: 2016 = 152M (9th) 2017 = 176M (7th) 2018 = 151M (11th) The idea that this team is going to be limited by payroll is not realistic. We had a very large payroll during the short competitive window, with Martin, Reyes, and Tulo all acquired on massive free agent contracts. Assuming Rogers will allow the team to once again have a top 10 payroll when it's time to compete, we can stop pretending that that we're a mickey mouse organization that can't play at the top end of the free agent market. There's no reason why the team can't go get an ace on the market, aside from risk aversion from management.

Yeah, assuming Cole is healthy all year and this team can go to 160M or so I’d give Cole the Greinke deal and be pretty excited about it. He’ll be 29 and he’s a super-elite top-5 arm who has been very durable.

Who knows?! Seems like if the important young guys (Vlad, Biggio, Jansen) push a bit in the second half Toronto should probably be willing to outbid almost anyone else for his services.

The list of tragedies that has befallen your DDL team this year is honestly hilarious. Almost every player you own has either been seriously injured, forgotten how to play baseball, assaulted a woman, or done several of those things.

There isn't a better fit on the FA market than Gerrit Cole. Something like 6/210 would be amazing. Cole Stroman Thornton Shoemaker Borucki/Pearson/Waguespack/SRF/Paulino Legit AF. Get it done Shatkins.

Odubel Herrera has been arrested and charged with domestic violence. Never trust a man who dyes his hair or beard gold.

Bellinger is better than Harper. He projects better offensively, he runs the bases better, and he plays gold glove caliber defense at OF and 1B while Harper is average.

Pretty sure absolutely nothing will come from this other than him having to issue a statement to appease any busybodies who care about this for some reason.

I get that the poll is 'assuming healthy', but I don't understand people saying Borucki has the higher floor. This is going to be his 3rd season all/mostly wiped out due to injury since being drafted. You can't separate him from the massive question marks about his arm durability.
