Yeah, I don't think he gets in if he retires today. As you say, the counting stats aren't there and he's had no team success. It's purely a WAR/wRC+ case. There's probably 3 paths to him getting in:
- another monster season
- being consistently productive, but not elite, through the end of his contract
- contributing meaningfully to a Reds championship
He's still about 10 fWAR away from guys like Gwynn, Edgar, Raines, and Molitor.
