I'm almost completely disinterested in Rowdy Tellez in a climate where you can just go get a CJ Cron or Ji-Man Choi for a couple million bucks whenever you feel you need a 1-2 win 115 wRC+ bat to take a bunch of reps at DH. I don't mind giving him reps this year, because why not, but if he hovers around a 90 wRC+ he should be optioned to AAA next year. There isn't enough upside there to warrant spending multiple seasons trying to develop a mediocre DH.

Gibson seems like a guy who might be a Morton-esque bargain. He seems to fly under the radar, but he's turned himself into a 3-win arm and he's been healthy for most of his career. He'd really stabilize the rotation.

He's probably not even interested in ever going back. I don't know to what extent his offensive struggles at the start were exacerbated by him going full Russ Adams at 2B, but it might not be a coincidence that he started hitting as soon as he was taken from a situation he was failing at and put in a situation in which he's succeeding defensively. If I'm his manager he doesn't even have an infield glove anymore, and his job is to get as comfortable as he can in left.

I'm breathing a pretty big sigh of relief about Gurriel, because I was starting to worry about his contract being a sunk cost. He should probably never step foot in the infield again, but he just might be a viable starting OF.

Even if guys like Cole, Strasburg, and Rendon aren't in play, there are a bunch of second-tier guys that a team in this market should be ashamed to not be able to afford: Grandal (if Jansen continues to hit half as well as Ryan Goins) Gennett Kendrick Moustakas JD Martinez Ozuna Edwin MadBum Gibson Hamels Hill Porcello Roark Odorizzi Ryu Wheeler Wood Betances I don't think it will (or should be) another offseason of Freddy Galvises and Clayton Richardses.

There were a lot of mid-range deals to be had in the market last year for teams willing to spend a bit: Michael Brantley Avisail Garcia Jesse Chavez Nelson Cruz Charlie Morton Mike Moustakas Josh Donalson Eduardo Escobar Yasmani Grandal Marwin Gonzalez Lance Lynn Jonathan Schoop All of these guys are providing surplus value on FA deals, and several on pace for 4+ win seasons on cheap 1-year deals. And I'm probably missing a bunch. There's no reason why this team shouldn't be aggressive in free agency this offseason.

Lourdes Gurriel has a 144 wC+. The fact that he seems like a capable LF defender has also been a very welcome development.

I'm hoping TB works out a long-term contract with him, because if they don't we probably don't see him in the majors until mid-April of 2021. He's probably good enough to contribute next year at 19.

Reading through dozens of Boxy posts consecutively trying to find the pick swap details was a wild ride. It felt a lot like I felt reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: intrigue, confusion, disgust, humour, and pity, among other things.

He wasn't. Boxy traded him to Dinger for the waiver 4.

Found the answer. And in doing so I was reminded that Dinger snagged Felipe Vazquez for the 4th overall waiver pick before the season.
