There's no blueprint to winning a world series. The Royals OF the year they won the WS collectively swung a bunch of wet pool noodles, but they could catch the ball. The Braves without Acuna were carried by a couple of shitbags (Rosario and Soler) who happened to have among their best months of the last 4 years. Toronto just needs to keep making the playoffs, and eventually things will go right. If there was a fatal flaw with the team in 2023, it was two franchise cornerstones succumbing to crippling obesity and providing them with absolutely nothing. They don't need a masher or a glove in LF. They just need the best player they can find. -
This was brought up a lot years ago when the A's paid Billy Butler what seemed like ridiculous money to DH. Haven't seen much about it recently, now that teams just cycle guys through the spot for rest.

I think you also didn't do badly. You got a 2nd + 4 -> 3 upgrade. Possibly a bit light, but I also wouldn't have paid any more because I wasn't that interested in the first place. Not sure anyone else was coming in with a bigger offer. But you have that in hand now. I'm hoping to get 2nd + reliever. But crickets so far, and I'll have to put a retirement condition on at least half of the return to make a deal. This isn't a situation where I'm going to flip him for more than I paid. Possibly if I he signs for 2024 and I still have him at that point. I still think the return in that case would still be in the 2nd + reliever area.

That is not what happened. I try not to purposely send lowballs, and I don't even send offers in BORED to people who just started fantasy. I did accept your unsolicited offer (2nd + 3rd for Kershaw + 4th), but it was (I believe) deadline day, and the alternative was likely you not moving him before the end of the season, and then trying to move him now.

He was given data suggesting that Berrios shouldn't see the Twins' lefties twice in a close game. And also suggesting that Kikuchi coming in early would be optimal in that situation. And he's probably aware that losing while disregarding the data is very bad for his job security. But we're to believe that he acted completely on his own. Atkins is kind of a snake.

He's trying deflect blame from himself and his front office staff. And it's probably not a lie. But when your bosses give you 'data' that likely also makes the connection to optical tactics that would result from the data, the field manager doesn't exactly have complete autonomy to do what he wants with it. Atkins doesn't come off as a straight shooter, and this kind of communication erodes morale.

I don't think he'd walk away while 56 Ks away from 3000 unless his shoulder forces the issue. I'm sure LAD would match any offer Texas gives, so he'd have to really want to move home.

This feels a lot like Atkins throwing Schneider under the bus. There's no way it wasn't strongly suggested to Schneider that Berrios should be pulled early for Kikuchi.

You'd have to think at least a few teams would be willing to give up pre-arb talent that would be expected to contribute in 2024. Even if it's just good prospects who are a year or two away, trading him also frees up 25M or whatever his arb salary will be next year. That's enough cash to add a 3-win player. But I'm approaching this from the POV that there's almost no chance I want to be paying Vlad in 2026.

Not sure I'm really understanding the 'don't sell low on Vlad' POV. He's two years from free agency. How likely is it that two years from now any of you are comfortable giving him a free agent contract? If it's more of the same the next couple of years he's easily replaceable and not a loss at all. If he's 2021 Vlad over the next couple of years, he's getting a mega-contract. But do you want to be the team giving a huge contract to a fat, inconsistent, bat-only 1B who bleeds runs on the bases and is already a bad 1B defender? I think it's basically a choice between trading him now, or trading him in a year. And any uptick in value that comes from a performance improvement in 2024 will be at least partially offset by the fact that a year from now you're trading one year of control instead of two. It's really close to decision time on Vlad.

3Sp, 3RP, 4P slots would work well I think. There's also no reason why the IP limit can't be increased to 30 or even 35. Even a 7-SP, 7RP roster would easily get you to 35 innings every week. I just looked at all of my matchups this year, and there were no weeks where either me or my opponent had fewer than 35 IP. A problem could arise if/when an owner who starts with a 7SP-7RP roster has some SP injuries and then doesn't bother to replace them. But that should just result in an owner replacement.
