Hockey and basketball are also far more dynamic, and individual results depend much more on teammates. It's much harder to do advanced analysis on it I would think.
  2. Yes. The question for me is whether he'll stay relatively healthy. In other health news, this is a rather interesting read http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/davidi-johnson-hopes-to-return-to-blue-jays/ Included were some tidbits about Alex possibly willing to do incentive deals this off-season, which is a big shift.

Lots of high scores today. Glad none of my goalies were playing.
  4. If he stays healthy, I think he'll be above average.
  5. Genuinely want to say congrats to JPA. Still going to immensely enjoy the jokes that follow from this though.
  6. I can't find the article, but I know it came out at some point that AA was very heavily into advanced stats early in his career (well before he became GM). He understands them, count on it. He's also said (from 2011 BP article) that when he became GM the Jays were extremely lacking in using stats, but he's been trying to build that up gradually. People around here tend to get a perception of something in their heads and then go off the deep end with it. AA may not be into stats at the same level as Beane (most aren't), but he isn't an old school dinosaur either. I think he also said recently that he listened too much to some of his advisers in the past and ignored his own beliefs, and that he needed to be a little more firm in listening to his own evaluations.
  7. I agree. Last thing you want to do here is bring in a tired Rodney (or a fresh one for that matter).
  8. Surprised Ogando is still in there. Wonder what will happen on the Rays side in the 9th, since we made Rodney throw a lot of pitches last night.
  9. Texas was incredibly lucky to get out of that inning with minimal damage.
  10. I wonder how many fans would be in the stands if this was in TB instead of Texas. The Rangers would probably have home field from the fans either way.
  11. Looks like the game is on Sportsnet today as well, in case anyone wasn't sure.
  12. No, it also is for those of us who like to try to figure out payroll flexibility and off-season targets as well. Another interesting thing they said was that Rasmus was in charge of the outfield defense this year, in terms of positioning and stuff.
  13. Yeah, so do I, but our spreadsheets from Cot's contracts and stuff don't display it that way so I thought it would be worth mentioning for people.
  14. They said one thing interesting, in that with the way the Jays do accounting, the Lind buyout would go on the books for this year if they chose to do so.
  15. There's no good answer to your question. WAR is mildly flawed in hitting, and extremely flawed in pitching and defense. With the current data at our disposal, it's also one of the best tools we have. More to the point though, I have a hard time in these kinds of awards penalizing the defense of someone like Cabrera or Choo who are playing out of position at the team's request.
  16. I dare you to tell that to Lawrie ... actually I don't, I want to see him on the field instead of a jail cell for the next 20 to life.
  17. I don't like the idea of taking a bad infield defender and putting him on an even faster surface. Murphy does not have a strong enough bat to overlook the defense imo.
  18. I was just looking through some of the season stats. Hard to believe there were only 6 players in the NL with 100+ rbi and 8 in the AL, and only 2 people with more than 36 home runs.
  19. Yeah, it's not the first time that's been mentioned either. They say JPA has great batting practice sessions, but as soon as he's in the game he gets some kind of mental block or something and it's all out the window.
  20. One of the best one-liners yet!
  21. I think we should just cancel it for now (I don't know about others, but I haven't prepared for it since I didn't think it was going to go). Perhaps as hockey gets into the swing of things we could get it going mid season. I'll keep my team in until before the draft just in case we do get more, but I think at this point the concept for this year is a dead duck.
  22. The lineups are great if they're possible, but with some games starting at 7est and some at 10est the late game lineups may not be posted before the early games start.
