  1. He got 6.5 last year. He'll get more than 8, and 9 or so is highly likely.
  2. Someone check the water in Detroit and Oakland ... Only thing I can think of is that Beane thinks he can flip Johnson for something better.
  3. I agree, no downside if the cost isn't high. If he isn't healthy then one of the kids can take over (provided he's not the only pitcher we sign).
  4. Law definitely didn't like the trade:
  5. Still doesn't make sense. He can dump that money elsewhere. Could we see Beane do something crazy and make Johnson a starter?
  6. What doesn't make sense to me, is that both Porcello and Fister probably make about the same next year. Unless Detroit's front office really has a thing for one of those guys they got in return, there has to be more to it. They could have dumped the salary just as easily with Porcello and probably gotten an equal return.
  7. Yeah, that's one hell of a steal. Now we can rage lol.
  8. Let's wait until we see what the return is before we complain about not topping it...
  9. I have to say, if this is legit I definitely didn't see it coming. I wonder if the tigers would flip Lombardozzi to us?
  10. It was 2/22
  11. I'd give a go at Niemann for sure.
  12. Can't argue with that.
  13. Maybe the obsession with drafting pitchers isn't such a bad idea for us. Much easier to convince a power hitter to come to a good hitting park than a pitcher to come here.
  14. Very very well done article! That is extremely high quality.
  15. The question we should be asking is whether they do so because of underlying philosophy or necessity. I'm not sure history suggests this to be likely, as we've seen a number of GM candidates move to other teams that were supposed to bring these schools of thought and never seemed to follow through. The one organization I would be comfortable in saying that they are different is the Cards.
  16. Hughes is a guy I might have loved to take a chance on for 1 year or 1 + option, but a 3 year deal at 8 per is insane.
  17. AA had better be taking notice and make sure he keeps Sanchez and Stroman at all costs.
  18. Yikes, 3 years / 24M???
  19. So ... you're whining about whining?
  20. Burch Smith could be rather interesting if the cost was a reliever.
  21. And JFaS and BB just got referenced in Nicholson-Smith's article on Sportsnet! http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/blue-jays-notebook-knuckleball-hangover/
  22. Breaking Blue got linked in a MLBTR post http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-.html
  23. Well, Shark and Bailey don't have much longer until FA, so I don't know if I care about their age so much unless we can extend them. I like both as targets though in general.
  24. Yeah, push come to shove I think I would do it too. First I'd try to get someone like Ogando as well though.
