I could see a great hitting coach who's had a set group of guys for a few years adding that kind of value, but I wouldn't expect someone to suddenly step in and get those kind of results first year. Basically impossible to quantify regardless. -

Whether we agree with it or not, the defensive metrics the last 2 years appear to be less cruel to him than we are, and he has big power. Some team out there would no doubt love to get and try to "fix" him at the plate. Worse case for us, we stash him in AAA and see if that clears his head, since he should still have options left. -

Out of curiosity, why don't you like the idea of Jimenez? He's posted an xFIP of 3.6-3.7 in 4 of the last 5 years (with similar SIERRA), and a WAR exceeding 3 in 5 of the last 6 years. Combine that with the fact that he's not viewed by many as one of the more sexy targets plus has a QO hovering over him to drive down the price, and we could possibly have him at a pretty nice bargain. -
Really no reason for them to QO him. He's stated pretty clearly that the only 2 choices are that he'll either retire or pitch for the Pirates.

Yeah. Basically charged down the ice, ripped Holtby's mask off (who repeatedly said he didn't want to fight), told Holtby to either fight or get pounded regardless, then started wailing on the back of Holtby's head as he tried to protect himself. Considering the problems with concussions and stuff today, and the danger of hitting someone there, he should get a big suspension for it.

Yeah, some of those could be interesting, although I doubt any are all that cheap. Baker made 1.75M last year and will likely get a decent raise after the season he had (which I doubt he comes close to repeating). He's probably basically DeRosa offensively and defensively but teams would be buying high. Youkilis will probably get 4 or 5M and a starting job (not that he necessarily deserves it). He would be an ideal platoon mate for Lind though. Reynolds will probably get 5-6M or more and a starting spot. Berkman will probably be 5+ million. Morse I'm not sure about. He's a perfect buy-low candidate if some team doesn't do something stupid with him, but even then he's probably 2.5-3 million.

Ellis will cost a hell of a lot more too, and wouldn't likely be paid to be a bench player. Not comparing the same thing there. I have to assume the Jays want someone on the bench with a little bit of positional flexibility and thump. Any lower pay player with those abilities will likely come with some kind of downside. I would have preferred we just keep Kawasaki and forget about the power, but this isn't the kind of thing to rant over imo. Heck, DeRosa may still retire anyhow.

It was the first game of the season. Both teams looked exactly like they were playing the first game. I can't believe how many people around here can possibly complain so much even when the teams win.

I don't remember for sure, but I think most people were fairly happy with the thought of Latos, but less so on Gio.

99% of the rumors regarding the Jays seem to be completely made up by some bored sportswriter. Let's wait until a deal actually happens before we start ranting.

Personally, if we're trading for Profar I would be rather unhappy if we dealt him for Lynn and Martinez. Either keep him, or deal him for someone with the potential to be elite.

The part that was quoted says that it's up to the ump's judgement on whether the fielder obstructed the runner, not on whether the runner would have been safe without the obstruction. I didn't read it from the rulebook though, so maybe it says more about that elsewhere.

The forum was pretty split between wanting Josh Sale and Chris Sale though if I remember right. Josh would have been a bigger error than Deck was (I actually still think Deck may end up a major league caliber starter, although probably back of the rotation).

I picked a heck of a time to go to the washroom... Looking at the replays, it's obvious it was obstruction. I think Craig would have also been easily safe at home if it hadn't happened even with his bad legs.

Watching Carlos' mannerisms on the mound really takes one back to a young Pedro. Definitely no question about who his dad is
