  1. Cubs hang up the phone with extreme prejudice.
  2. I'm actually quite excited by the idea of Drabek (although I'd rather get a high end starter + Porcello). The issue with Drabek (aside from the TJ's) has always been the walks since he came here, but last year the reports were that he finally realized he's got to trust his stuff and stop walking people, and he put up a 1.3 bb/9 and 5.83 k/bb. Not surprising the other numbers followed.
  3. Unless they need to make McGowan the 5th starter to avoid losing him (which probably isn't the case), I actually think Drabek may be 1st in line for a rotation spot, with Hutch a close second.
  4. Probably almost anything we could give them that doesn't involve our big two or Lawrie/Edwin/JB would be a win.
  5. He'll probably be back next year for the final month, then some extra action in the fall.
  6. Think it's closer to a year now.
  7. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2013-disabled-list-team-data/ Man, look at that loooooong line for our pitchers ... and that was with Dickey pitching 1/2 the year when he probably shouldn't have been.
  8. That might be easier said than done if they are up against the cap.
  9. With this deal and Nova arbitration, this probably puts them around 120M with only two starting pitchers, no Cano, and lots of arbitration guys. 70M may sound like a lot, but it's gonna get eaten fast.
  10. Castro would be fantastic (although incredibly unlikely).
  11. If we are in on him, I could definitely see the deal expanding.
  12. Let's all thank the Rockies for making the Yankees pay more!
  13. could be 5/80 plus some options
  14. In many ways, they'd probably be better off going after Russell Martin next off-season.
  15. A catcher like McCann hitting in that stadium is just unfair lol. I wonder how it will affect the Yankees getting under the cap?
  16. We don't need any spots filled in Buffalo (for once). More generally though, I do think that teams should take a shot on some guy late in the draft who has excellent pitchability but without major league stuff, and develop them strictly as a knuckleballer.
  17. Nah, they link to blogs and stuff all the time. This is one of their latest: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/baseball-blogs-weigh-in-fielder-tigers-kinsler-miller.html
  18. Yeah, got confused on how that was set up. You quoted me before I could delete the post lol
  19. Cool! The tables should be converted to html though to make them visible to the search engines and easier to read. You should submit the links for these things to MLBTR as they're published. That would increase the number of visitors to the site by a ton.
  20. The team dramatically underperformed last year, so it's reasonable to assume that a fair amount of those wins are made up with average performances across the board (JFaS posted in another thread what the projections for our team are for next season with replacement level players at 2nd, catcher, and SP, and I believe it was something like 86 games). Replacing JPA with Hanigan should be a cheap improvement at catcher and wouldn't likely cost a top prospect. There's been some talk that Porcello might be easily obtainable (Detroit needs bullpen help and we're overloaded there). He'd provide us with solid innings and definitely has some big upside if things click. That would leave us with 2b and one SP. There's a number of trade candidates for 2b that should come fairly cheap, and we should have enough money remaining to fill the final SP slot from FA.
  21. That sounds about right, but probably closer to 8 WAR over the 4 years. I have no idea if Reyes would fetch a pitcher or not, but it would certainly be a good way to cover two holes at no extra cost.
  22. He's been all over the place in batting average, but he's probably worth it (at least at 4/52). You have to wonder about something like signing Peralta, then trading Reyes to the Cards for a pitcher + Wong or something.
  23. Can we also get a button to ignore a thread? j/k
  24. I don't like thread title modifying unless it's to fix a spelling error or remove something offensive (or if the OP asks for it to be). I do like the thread merging though.
  25. I think the biggest issue is no real way to tell the reason why a player had a down year. Was it due to a lingering injury that will completely clear up in the off-season, or was it due to age or chronic injury? For example, if a pitcher breaks his leg, I'm not going to worry about it affecting his stuff the next year or suddenly suggest that he'll only throw 150 innings instead of 200 the next year. If he has shoulder problems, I definitely am. Since many injuries are never reported to the public (and sometimes not even to the trainers!), it's impossible to really include that data.
