  1. If our depth was like it was last year, I'd love it. I question whether he'd really outperform our house options next year though.
  2. I agree. Just watch though, somehow he'll put up .900 OPS and get traded for a haul, then regress back to normal.
  3. Assuming no major injury or drop off a cliff, you have to figure Trout will get a minimum of 10/300 4 years from now. However, even if it was only 10/250, under my scenario you'd be paying 10/150 for the other 10 years (4 on the front end and 6 on the back end). When you figure in inflation, that would seem to potentially be well under market value. If it's closer to 10/100 for the other 10 years, then it's a steal.
  4. If I'm Halladay, I think I look to stay in reasonable shape and go on the weighted ball program. Take a full year away, then come into spring next year and see where things stand. If the velocity still isn't there, it isn't there. Maybe the time away and strengthening finish off the surgery rehab though.
  5. I wonder what Trout would do if they offered him 400/20 right now? Could either side actually say no?
  6. That would only be 20M / year. I'd say that would be on the low end, although as he ages he'll lose some of the defense and speed value you'd think.
  7. Definitely tampering, although I suspect it wasn't intentional. He should have just said something about an elite 26 year old (like Trout will be when FA hits).
  8. Tell ju1ced to turn on html code and we can have some real fun
  9. Interesting. I'd love to see one of these studies done with number of games played rather than age though, and see how the curves compare (would give an interesting look at pitcher/hitter adjustments in relation to decline as well)
  10. I'm still not upset about d'Arnaud. Maybe he ends up being great, but his injury history is terrible and when he was with us in the minors his walk totals were kinda JPA like. The throwing arm was better. It's highly doubtful he can stick behind the plate, and whether or not he provides reasonable value at 1st or DH is anyone's guess. Syndergaard I hated losing, but I think there is a good chance that Dickey in the 4 years we have him (including last year mind you) puts up higher WAR at the MLB level than Syndergaard does. After that of course it likely changes. I'm not trying to say we didn't overpay for Dickey, because we clearly did.
  11. He posted 2 WAR while pitching injured half the year, it was incredible value (salary wise) even in hindsight.
  12. There's a few here from well before that.
  13. I bet the third prospect they want isn't a scrub either.
  14. I don't think it was, but I saw that a few mins ago. I hope AA told them where they could go.
  15. Can we get a best suck-up category?
  16. I think someone on the old boards tracked it back for several of us and the sign up date was in 2000 or 2001 some time, although I think ESPN switched to new boards around then resetting everyone's date (that happened again in 2004 or something). I'd have to dig up really old archived e-mails to see if I have some kind of welcome message from before then (if I even saved it).
  17. Lol, well thanks, but I'm definitely not a new poster.
  18. Looks like Cano wants to make up for lost time with the facial hair too now that he's out of NY.
  19. Assuming it doesn't cost Sanchez/Stroman, I think I would much rather try to nab Ackley or Franklin via trade than sign Infante. Both would probably provide similar WAR, but would come much cheaper in salary which gives us more for pitching.
  20. That might be my favorite Law quote ever!
  21. I love this! As I said earlier, hopefully this extends to the draft rather than just throwing away those picks meant to free up draft budget.
  22. This doesn't change the sport in any negative way that matters. In fact, in some ways the enforcement of it improves things. I hated how catchers would set up in front of the plate without the ball, or at least without having the ball in a position where they could tag the runner, blocking any possible avenue the runner had. That's just as dangerous for the runner to try to slide through all that equipment to have a chance at the plate they're supposed to have anyway. They have two options, slide into the equipment and risk injury, or bowl over the catcher and risk injury. BTW, for the record I think they should make it a rule that players can not intentionally make contact with a fielder (such as at second) unless the fielder is blocking their path. (Ie, no going out of their way to get a piece of the fielder, especially after they're already technically out)
  23. Nice, I forgot about those 5 games of Ducey.
  24. Does this mean Ohka becomes the first and only player to ever play for the Expos once and Jays twice? No harm from this signing though, and makes perfect sense to sign where a knuckleballer can actually help him. I'd love for the Jays to do their 5k-freeing-up-draft-slot-bonus signing on a college guy with great pitchability but subpar stuff, with the express purpose of turning him into a knuckleballer.
