Not an exciting return, but Popkins has helped a number of slap hitters increase their bat speed and power.  Jays obviously like guys with a good approach and bat to ball skills - and think they can help them find their power.

I don't think keeping him for nothing made sense, but some toolsy guy like Alcantara would have been fun (although his 30% k rate is gross)

Definitely could be a factor. People seem to completely forget about the human aspect of these transactions.

I think he'll come back, he loves it here. He can Air BNB in Chicago with his fam and come back to the T.Dot in November 😉

Southisene is the worst “prospect” I’ve ever encountered lmao

Physically incapable of hitting a homer, he’s a midget, debate on whether he’s actually even a SS, etc

And this is the headline piece for a Jays legend

kill me

Everything Ross Atkins does both kind of makes sense and sucks ass at the same time

He probably sleeps with an eye mask on and the Calm app in his ears

Apparently the Cubs are picking up the full remainder Gausman's contract. They probably could have gotten more in a return. But are seemingly going to try to prioritize reducing the tax bill at this point. Jays are 23 million over the 40 million target point where you lose 10 slots in the draft. I doubt they will be able to get under that. But shedding Gausman's remaining 7 million helps.

This org has a penchant for AAAA players.

Looks like they're going to get snake oil for Varsho if this is any indication.

What happened to the "sellers market" talk?

Effing abysmal!🫩

Oh, and we play the Cubs soon. Get ready for Gasmans splitter to mystify our whole lineup. The timing lines up perfectly for him to start against us.

Just an awful year to be "out of it".  We have all kinds of useless AAAA guys we could have unloaded for top talent if we were making a push for a title.

Found a video where Ty starts his hitting drill with a tee set up near his shoulder height and explains that he tries to get on top of the ball and hit it on the ground the other way

He will love it here

Unfortunately, the front office has been going after guys like this for years now. A complete shift in mentality for what kind of offensive profile they tend to value highly.

Tapia, Gimenez, Clement, Straw, Wagner, Roden, Clase, Lukes, Loperfido, and Vlad. Sure im missing some others too

I see what you did there? lol

This was reported by Fangraphs in their Jays prospect writeup:

Quote

"The Jays are really good at building strength. Their guys get stronger and tend to do so quickly. This is a good home for interesting players with below-average (or worse) present power or velocity, and Toronto seems to take at least some players with that in mind. Jake Cook and Blaine Bullard may or may not develop more pop, but they couldn’t be in a better spot to try."

They have been spamming these high contact, high patience, high plate control with low present power hitters hard lately, so clearly there is an organizational philosophy going on that these two follow. They may be trying to load up on as many of these guys as they can and seeing if one of them pops with added strength/power.

Dub Gleed and Jay Harry are both guys who have seen their ISO's rise after being acquired in trades. Gleed all of a sudden looks interesting in AA, and he hit for barely any power while in Miami's system.

This is less than I thought they'd get, but Bateman has a chance to be the starting CF next season, and he looks like a sure major leaguer even if its as a 4th OF. At worst you are replacing Myles Straw on the roster with him.

Southisene is less interesting due to the severe lack of power and likely projects as a solid bench middle infielder..

I'm not sure if its been reported yet, but if the Cubs are picking up the remainder of Gausman's salary then the lower return makes more sense.

Well, I didn't know we had 32 more promising prospects in our organization that are better than a player we traded who might have the highest value among rentals.

We won’t even be able to get a Swiss Chalet gift card for Daulton Varsho at this rate

15% discount on the 2 can dine for $19.99 quarter chicken meal deal.
