Rutschman is a great addition for Boston. I think they'll extend him and finally have that C spot filled for the medium-long term.

The new Jason Varitek...

Realistically this might be the best trade deadline I’ve ever seen from the jays. The team isn’t much worse this year, in fact it’s arguably better depending how you feel about the rotation shake up. Undoubtedly in a better position moving forward as well. A+ to Shatkins

I was listening to the presser on CP24 of all places... sounded like Springer decided he wanted to stay.

Would be awesome if the Jays went on a run and got the third WC, or at least made it somewhat interesting down the stretch. I doubt it, especially since the lineup will see tons of Myles Straw and Gimenez, but give us something to care about over the next 2 months since we have no clue when baseball will start again afterwards.

Great deadline all things considered.

The market was soft for SP simply because the supply was high. That influenced the Jay's return for Gausman but I trust the org and like that they do their own thing and don't care about prospect lists and s***.

Hoffman return is so good.

Varsho return is good.

I enjoy the Soriano deal and the Smith-Macko deal.

I'm not surprised nobody wants Scherzer, Bieber, Springer... they have a combined -0.1 fWAR.

I would like to see them extend Bieber again at a discounted price.  maybe get that done before FA

We'll see how he does the rest of the way first. If he pitches himself into extension talks or a QO that'd be gravy.

The issue isnt Straw and Gimenez because at least theyre providing ELITE defense at the most important spots on the field.  Its all the players who play other spots but provide a noodle bat.

Those two are absolutely part of the problem with the team struggling to score runs to the degree they have.

I would say overall a good deadline even though it hurts to see Nimmala go.

Also, the return on the Gausman trade was really bad benchmarked against similar guys.

Even the 2015 Jays had Pillar/Goins... youre not going to have studs at every position but like I said, at least those 2 provide elite defense at the most important spots.

The problem is this team lacks elite offensive talent (guys who deserve to be batting top 4 on a contender).  I cried about it last oftseason and you'll probably hear me crying about it this offseason but I do have faith we'll address it this time.

Overall a good deadline, hill especially is a lot of fun and keeps in line with the type of guys theyve been targeting recently (high release point guys who throw hard with gyro breaking balls). Young guys like hill with super long levers seem like theyd be really helped by the jays elite strength & conditioning program.

Its strange that the jays are so much more willing to bet on these flawed guys with elite traits on the pitching side & are so boring / safe with the hitters they tend to acquire. They must think they've got a competitive advantage with the combination of elite catcher defense locked up long term at the ML level & a great strength program that helps the younger arms they acquire

Also shoutout to the giants, they had the best deadline by FAR imo. I've been critical of the posey FO, but they crushed it today

I get this weird feeling we are going to be very dissappointed in this trade deadline.

The way the season has gone so far, not getting rid of the pending FAs for eve 1 or 2 useful bodies would the the diarrhea frosting on an already sh*t filled cake.

I'm pretty happy you were wrong John!

Fun trade deadline for the Jays and just overall as a baseball fan.

Yeah that was a pretty wild day. Trades every few minutes it felt like. So much prospect scouting lol

I don't think you knew that Springer was going to break his toe which took him off of his game, or ditto for Kirk breaking his thumb, or Barger missing nearly the entire season and Santander missing the entire season and finally Vlad having an inconceivably poor season with that bat after a massive post season and WBC. I think this team should have a lot better offensive unit than when we've seen in a more normal season although I can agree one more potent bat being added would have been the cherry on the top of an already excellent offseason.

We have most of our rotation and bullpen set for next year. I would still like to add a good lefty reliever.

Focus this off-season should and I think will be on bats. I say back the truck up for Yordan. Stick Santander in the outfield part time if he`s even alive next year and see what else you can find.

What would "backing the truck up" for Yordan even look like, given that he's not free agent til 2029?

They'd never trade him short of a package that, half of which, would burn your eyes out.

I don`t know why in my head I thought he was a free agent next year. Damn.

My bad

Also happy to have been wrong.

Can't see any reason to be upset over this deadline other than the fact it was necessary sells due to garbage underperformance by key players that sunk the season to this point.

One could argue the team has actually improved, though that's a bit of a reach. But there's still a chance they go on a run a squeak in
