Ohtani won it when he didn't pitch in 2024.  No one else ever has.  Even Ortiz. 

If he wins the Triple Crown he's a shoo in... if not Bobby Witt might take it, it isn't a slam-dunk.

Royals are 22 games under .500.  If the Astros win the west, I don't think Witt gets a sniff.

I think standings/record still play a factor.  I do think we've moved past rudimentary stats like average, RBIs, W/L, etc., but team success is still considered.

Tommy John died a couple of days ago at age 83.  A true shame he wasn't elected to the HOF before he passed.  23rd all-time in WAR for pitchers.  Hurt by old school rudimentary counting stats.

Between his performance and the impact of the surgery - I think he belongs in the HOF.

Savant 1B Fielding Receiving Leaderboard

Basically how effective the 1B is at converting throws into outs. It's not just picks, it's everything. So a measurement of size (wingspan), as well as hands (picks) and athleticism (fielding weird stuff) 

Vlad sucks. 

Now, by OAA this is across nearly 6 full seasons so it's not some huge value changed. Vlad is a -2 per year. Shave .2 WAR off his annual WAR values. The elites are +4 or +5 per year but outside of the extremes this does not matter much.

Matt Olson and Freddie Freeman are both very tall and elite, so you would think this is correlated strongly with height, but when you plot it out you can see that there is close to no trend if you ignore those two dudes.

I agree. Yordan offensively has been a beast and if the Astros win the division, I think he gets it. 

Crazy to think that Detroit has Dingler at 5.2 WAR and McGonigle at 4.7 WAR (4th and 5th best WAR in baseball amongst positional players). If Tigers win the division, you think one of them could be considered?

PCA was babysat by Hayden panetierre when he was a kid.  That would be pretty sweet.  
 

i never babysat by celebrities but my moms friend saw Mike Modano on a plane and my brothers ex girlfriend had a friend who got hit on by Jamie foxx.  I also got my skateboard signed by Matt Hoffman even though I do not like bmx.  Now that I think about it that’s a pretty impressive list

Mariners To Promote Kade Anderson

The Mariners are calling up Kade Anderson to make his MLB debut on Saturday against the Cubs, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN. Bryan Woo had been slated to start that game and will be presumably be pushed back to Sunday.

Anderson is viewed by most evaluators as the best pitching prospect in the game. Keith Law of The Athletic ranked him the #1 overall prospect in his most recent update shortly before the trade deadline. Seattle nabbed the 6’2″ southpaw with the third overall pick in the 2025 draft. He didn’t pitch professionally last year after throwing 119 innings in his sophomore season at LSU. The M’s assigned him to Double-A Arkansas this year and, as Dipoto mentioned, he has completely dominated the level.

In 18 starts, Anderson sports a 1.06 earned run average with a 41% strikeout rate. He has the best strikeout rate and ERA among all minor league pitchers with at least 80 innings. He’s coming off four consecutive scoreless outings while holding opposing batters to a laughable .147/.183/.216 slash line in 333 plate appearances.

Nice, kid deserves to be up with the big club with numbers like that.

We already have Daz Cameron as a right-handed bat, but the Astros did designate Nelson Velazquez for assignment yesterday. He’s still only 27 and could be an interesting bat to take a look at as a potential platoon option in left field with Lukes. The defense isn’t anything special, but there is some legitimate power there. In 2023, Velazquez hit 17 home runs in just 162 ABs while posting a 133 wRC+. Could be worth a look as a low-cost depth option against left-handed pitching.
