Forbes had the Padres as the 10th most valuable team and gave them a valuation of $3.1 billion entering the year

I'm not going to buy the owners crying poor in the upcoming labor negotiations when their teams are selling for over 25% of their valuations

Yeah the Padres selling at nearly $4b despite having no local TV deal (I believe their local rights are owned by MLB Now) hurts the owners negotiating power significantly. The biggest reason the owners want a cap is not for competitive balance (they probably don't even care about that) but rather for increased franchise values. Definitely something the MLBPA will be using on their end.

Bryan Abreu (one of the top relievers in baseball the last 4 years):

7.1 innings, 12 ER, 4 HR, 13 BB, 12 K's, 14.73 ERA, 12.29 FIP, and a -0.7 fWAR

Geez what a mess he has been lol. 

Maybe moving into the closers role had some sort of impact. I recall even last September when he was filling in for Hader, he struggled and blew a couple of saves.

more ABS fun....

We all know that challenges have to be made immediately after a pitch but I didn't know about the second part of the "how long do you have rule" apparently it can be done after a play involving a runner - eg. catcher throws down on an attempted steal.

Braves are sitting atop the NL East with a 14-7 record and a +55 run differential which is pretty remarkable since they lost 60% of their rotation to injuries at the start of the year and also lost Profar to a suspension and both Kim and Murphy to the IL.

Seems odd.  You can see Quantrill tapping his head before Young even gets to 3rd base (when I would consider the play to be "over").  I think the ump f*cked that one up.
