Would you still sign Bo if he made it a condition that the Jays guarantee him the SS gig for the next 5 years?  Because he destroys a lot of his value playing short.  IMO, a 2B Bo + SS Gimenez tandem is far better for the team

Bo will play 2nd, Jays will just match his best offer(north of Adames contract) and tack on a couple years to lower his AAV. Same with Suarez for say a year, sign a leverage arm, and dump Straw's salary on someone, he had a 1.8 fWAR season. I'm sure they can move him. Loperfido can take his role at league minimum.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I'm conflicted on Bo because I don't think his batting profile is going to age well (high BABIP, low walk rates) and he was slower than Vlad in sprint speed prior to his injury (and he's had a bunch of lower body injuries recently). With that said, the Jays need a short-term impact bat to take advantage of this competitive cycle, and Bo might be the most realistic one they can get. I wouldn't be terribly upset if another team overpaid him and the Jays moved on to someone else, but could certainly understand bringing him back at a reasonable price point.

I'd go with Imai + Bo as well. Or Imai + sign/trade for Bo's replacement, whichever one is the more reasonable path (ex. if Bo wants $250M then maybe look towards a trade or another avenue in free agency). After Bieber picked up his option, I think Imai is even more appealing since the Jays can take a bit of a risk now on upside with some certainty added to the rotation.

Ketel Marte is definitely going to be available and would be an unreal get. Slot perfectly in two hole between George and Vlad, controlled through 2030

And then I agree completely with the upside risk since they got a sweetheart deal on Biebs. Plus Imai is so young for a FA just like Bo that you’re paying for like half of his prime and not ages 32-36

That's what throws me off with Bregman.

Fun game. There's a few intriguing scenarios out there.

It's Too Obvious ($49/51M)

  • Bo 26
  • Imai/Ranger 23/25

Build Depth/Spread out Risk ($50M)

  • Bo/Murakami 26/23
  • Cody Ponce/Zach Eflin 11/8
  • Tyler Rogers 9
  • Willi Castro 7

Dream scenario where Ed Rogers goes full Steinbrenner and starts writing blank checks (and honestly, there’s a non-zero chance of it). We add about $90 million to the payroll instead of just $50 million and suddenly we’ve got ourselves a legit super team.

  • Bo 26
  • Murakami 23
  • 1 of the top SP (Cease, Ranger, Imai) 23-27
  • 1 of the top RPs that isn't Diaz (Devin Williams/R Suarez/R Helsley/T Rogers) 9-16

I would glady do this off-season without Murakami.

But swap in Schwarber instead and it’s go time.

Jays have a lot of money coming off the books next off season. Like roughly $90 million with Bieber, Gausman, Springer, Varsho, Yimi, Straw and Lauer.

I can see a scenario where they go above the highest LTT of $304 million for one year.

Bring back Bo, and then build a stacked rotation and bullpen.

Bo 7x189 / Cease 5x130 / Suarez 2x30 / Seranthony 2x16

DH - Springer (R)

RF - Barger (L)

1B - Vladdy (R)

2B - Bo (R)

LF - Santander (S)

C - Kirk (R)

CF - Varsho (L)

3B - Clement (R)

SS - Giminez (L)

Bench -  (C) Heineman / (OF) Lukes / (OF) Straw / (UT) Schneider

SP1 - Gausman

SP2 - Cease

SP3 - Bieber

SP4 - Yesavage

SP5 - Berrios

CL - Suarez

SU8 - Hoffman

SU7 - Garcia

MR - Varland

MR - Dominguez

MR - Fluharty

MR - Little

LR - Lauer

There is also Fisher, Sandlin, Rodriguez, Francis, Bastardo, etc to build from. Just run with with the performers.

About $323,000,000 I think, all in with about $90 million coming off after 2026.
