Maybe a trade is the way to go? We could sign tons of starting pitching and put Berrios in the pen to replace Lauer as the long man.

Anything we ever get from Tieddeman or Bloss is gravy at this point.  You can't rely on either (and I think Bloss is out until mid-season as is), although obviously fingers crossed on Ricky - as the talent level is elite.

He's an ok long man leftie in the pen for $5 million or so. Like, its not terrible but when we have a pretty tight 40 man.. i think its tradeable.

I want them to sign Bo, but the argument to essentially spend his money on pitching is a pretty good one imo:

s***** re: Burr. Seemed like something had potentially clicked for him and then he couldn't stay healthy. Projections still like him, would be interesting to see if he would sign a minor league deal with a chance to break the team. At least an agreement like the team has to make a decision by Opening Day or he can become a FA after that.

Yea i think his contract could have actual value for a cheap team looking for a 5th starter.

Yeah I kind of thought they'd keep him around with his projected arb salary being about league min. He's shown enough to be given a 26-man spot IMO. I think he'll get a major league deal.

He won't be healthy in the next training camp. He will end up have surgery and miss most of the next season.  He will end up DH in few years. The good news, he have options out to his contract,  so we should hope he activate it if before end of his contract. So to be Atkins,  need focus to bring few great relievers includinga #1 closer. Need sign Bichette long term a 2B, and find a good LF who can hit 25+HR and have good AVG. We already have Gausman,  Bieber, Yesevage and Berrios,  just have to bring Scherzer 1 last year.  He can be a good mentor for Yesevage. We all know that Skubal, Sknenes if they are traded will be to NYK, NYM or Dodgers.

In fact signing Bo is no really about who will play 2B, but mostly signing someone who can hit 20+ HR and 40+2B  when have 300 AVG.. If you don't, be sure to sign someone like Schwarber.

Starting pitching depth is incredibly important and I simply don't think we have enough quality depth in the upper minors to be discarding Lauer for $5M.  It's not even close IMO.  I think ideally, you go into 2026 with Lauer as the 6th starter.

Yea but you can't keep him in the upper minors and would need to keep him stretched out in the pen.

I didn't listen to the podcast, but I've had this concern about Bo for a while. I don't think he's a good long term investment. Moving to 2B and extracting a bit more defensive value will help him as he ages, but the offensive profile seems very dangerous to bank on for 5 more years, much less 7 or 8. Unfortunately there isn't really much in terms of other options in free agency. Bellinger comes with his own flaws, Schwarber is a DH (the Jays have 2 of them already), and Tucker is going to be very expensive with other big market teams in on him. It does seem like it will be Bo or bust in free agency. My guess is they'll look at the trade market if Bichette leaves.

We didn't. We just gave him a qualifying offer, which he will obviously decline. It just entitles us to a compensatory pick if he leaves

Oh nm, someone posted here saying we extended him.  Looks like a photo shop.  I’m out in the rain.

Bo did make an odd comment a few weeks ago about take a short term deal to “rebuild” value.  Not sure why he would say it considering he had a good year.
