CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 Great win for the boys, great performance by Gausman (well the first 5 innings anyways hehe)
BatFlip Verified Member Posted October 4, 2025 Posted October 4, 2025 I almost forgot which team can "score at will".... Awesome outing by Kevin "not a big game pitcher" Gausman. Will still be a tough series, but f***ing amazing way to get the monkey off the back! Let's go Jays! Omar, Spanky__99 and max silver 3

The disrespect for the #1 seed is off the charts! Would love for the rookie to shut them down and shut them up tomorrow. Go Jays! Woocash, Wake n bake and Kordesi 3

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Banking a game is huge in a five game series. Jays are the easy favourites now, regardless of the SP matchups. Even the broadcasters thought it was weird to use your “Closer”. In a game you’re up 10-1. I am over the f***ing moon that they won. But don’t give the team a free look at your closer. You have several arms in that pen that could have finished the game. What if Hoffman needs to come into a 2-1 game tomorrow. He has thrown 17 pitches yesterday. Maybe he needs another 20-25 tonight. Both Jazz and Volpe saw him. It all matters. It all makes a difference. Weird decision. End of discussion.

But Jays have had success off them. And how quick Boone is with hooks he seems to take that advantage away quickly. It all comes down to execution. In the playoffs outside of true ace I don’t think you can look at a starting pitching matchup as a blanket advantage. Those starters are coming out fast. Often after the first sign of trouble especially later in the game. We may only see Yesavage for a couple innings tomorrow. He might be able to go 5 or 6 all depends on location and if he’s throwing enough strikes with his Fastball to make that Splitter effective.

I’m looking at it as a statement that Hoffman may not be the go to closer, he had to prove his stuff, fisher was up with Hoffman to close it then when it got out of control they sat fisher and went to Hoffman. I mean I could be wrong but it felt to me like JS is gonna close with whoever he wants and it ain’t Hoffman. Cuz I don’t think JS is that dumb to waste his closer in a lead like that, but I could be wrong, was just my take on the situation when it went down

We just haven't had any indication of this to this point because he was never removed from the roll despite all his troubles. Perhaps they don't want him to go to many days without him throwing. But I know he pitched in the last intrasquad game on Thursday. So its not like he went that entire week without seeing live action. Perhaps they have a rule with him if they get him warm they are going to use him no matter what. Velo looked good. It will be interesting to see what they do late in games going forward. The Jays could sweep them and all they'll talk about is how the Yankees were the better team and got unlucky. Ignore it. They're telling their audience what they want to hear. This was a statement game and it's now up to the Yankees to respond to it on the field. Spanky__99 1

Baseball is a game of confidence. Vlad getting that homer in his first AB and making that defensive play. What a dream start. Kirk is hot. Santander's single was key. Then later in the inning Lukes double on a high inside fastball that was a good pitch. Vlad showing emotion on getting a productive sac fly. Everything rolled the Blue Jays way. Brownie19 1
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 Nice to see the Jays lineup put up 5+ runs. Gausman was dealing until the 6th inning. Defensively, the Jays made some real nice plays and that could be the difference in a tight game and short series. Still worried if this game was closer like 2-1 or 3-1 heading into the 9th inning. Glad the Jays put together a big inning when Weaver came in. Wonder if Hoffman is still the closer, or Schneider & the Jays roll with someone else when the game is on the line. Varland coming in and striking out Stanton with a 101 mph fastball was sick though with the bases loaded! Winning Game #1 was the most important. If the Jays could steal today's game, series is pretty much wrapped up!
