Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 It's like the Blue Jays front office is going out of its way to make the most uninspiring moves they possibly can.

Personally, i think Scherzer would be great in the bullpen considering his age/injury history but thats not going to happen right now. We'll see come playoff time.

I don't know it seems to me they broke the one pitcher that was swimming along just fine. HomeRunHomer 1
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 6-man rotation was always stupid. Clearly threw mostly eeveryone out of routine and rhythm. Gausman seems like the only guy to pitch better with extrs rest. Feel bad for Lauer he had the longest lay off obviously got shelled and is the first to get booted. All he did this entire Season was pitch well for us. With that being said talent wise he should be the 6th option. He could still be incredibly valuable going forward.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 It was definitely ego driven to send Lauer to the pen, can't really send any of the other 5 there, but probably not the most egregious decision. I don't know if Lauer would have been able to sustain his performance enough to justify a 6 man rotation down the stretch. Besides that, Berrios has been here for a few years with a big contract, and Bassitt is an impending FA (demoting him to the pen would hurt him in other ways), so Lauer really had no shot. Giving up 17 home runs in his last start at least made the decision a little easier.

So it doesn't matter how many times Berrios implodes or Bassitt implodes, politics and feelings dictate they keep getting chances. But Lauer has one lousy start, after they completely f***ed with his routine, and it's off with his head. I'm not surprised, but I still think it kind of sucks.
gruber9292 Verified Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Barger doesn't really profile a two hole hitter. Personally I would have Lukes batting second with Barger fifth and Varsho seventh. Wasn't the offence at its best with Lukes batting second?

We don't really have anyone that profiles as an ideal 2 hitter. I like Lukes well enough, but he may be the 5th or 6th guy that I want getting the most at bats per game. I agree that Barger is an odd choice right now. I think Schneider is trying to get Barger more fastballs to hit, but of course that requires Vladdy to start crushing again.

You going to trust Barger on a hit and run, or advancing a runner from second with no outs? I'll take the higher on base percentage and contact ability over Barger. The only thing is the lesser power, but on base and contact usually trumps in the two spot. Jmo.. Jays24 1

I would probably roll with Varsho to see how he does in that spot. Hes been our best power threat all season.
