Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Author Posted August 31, 2025 This is fine, but I'm not sure that I really see the need. Hopefully he can be added to the roster tomorrow so that we don't have to make a move. Loperfido was making real positive contributions to the team so it kind of sucks that he probably won't be back up right away.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Who is he going to replace on the roster lol. Weird move.

Especially when you already employee 2 glove first regulars in Clement and Giminez

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Right now, Falefa is a better option than Gimenez
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Hard to see the fit. Sit Gimenez, Clement?

Schneider would take a bullet before he sits Clement, and don't think Gimenez against RHP is in any danger of losing playing time. IKF has a 37 wRC+ against LHP this season, but he bats right handed, so I guess that makes a Gimenez/IKF platoon something they'll end up doing. I really don't see the fit there other than wanting to double down on more defense. Barrelsandbombs 1
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 ....just saw he's going to the Phillies. aargh

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Author Posted September 1, 2025 I think we're reading a little too much into this. IKF is a pinch runner and defensive replacement who most of the guys already know. If there's an injury or something, we'll be happy to have him. If not, it just cost some cash

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Does anyone know if this move happened prior to September 1st (ie, will he be eligible for the playoffs?)

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 Yeah with Clement's hand concern and looking banged up a bit, not a bad idea to bring IKF aboard for some depth in case one of an injury. Jays don't lose a beat defensively and IKF is a versatile guy you can pretty much play anywhere.

My fear is that he does nothing but serve to cannibalize playing time for other more deserving players. From the manager's comments it doesn't sound like he's going to play every day but given John Schneider's seeming love affair with Ernie Clement and IKF largely fitting the same mold as light hitting speedy utility player who knows for certain.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 IKF should never start a game. That's the litmus test. If he gets a start and it's not because of injuries, we hang John Schneider

Ernie Clement himself is the one who's already been cannibalizing playing time for other more deserving players against RHP all season. If IKF is the one who finally convinces John Schneider to stop trotting Ernie's 66 wRC+ vs. RHP out there every day, that's likely a good thing. Also when IKF and Ernie were both here last season IKF got more playing time, at 3B and in general. Otherwise we'll just have to wait until Santander gets back for Ernie to get displaced.

Having one such player on the roster that's pencilled into the lineup no matter what is bad enough though let alone two of them. It's crazy but IKF has actually outperformed Ernie against RHP this season, albeit with a still really bad 87 wRC+.

I don't really think so I mean is he taking Barger or Clement out of the lineup? Or platooning Gimenez with another light hitter? Hard to see it. I think the comments about pinch hitting more aggressively are sincere

He has always played the full roster.
