Hoffman has to be having one of the worst full season closers years in Jays history by ERA and blown saves measures.

Rauch managed 11 saves in 2011. The Jays went through a number of closers that year. Only managed 33 saves that year and 29 in 2012. to put in perspective they had a team of 45 svs in 2010(Gregg had 37) and in 2013 had 28 with Jansen getting 34.

Casey Janssen always gave me nightmares when he was closing. Always seemed to get great results but since he wasn't a big strikeout guy the ball was almost always in play. Rarely walked guys though which was a major plus

That couldn't have finished any better. He sticks with Barger v. the lefty in the 7th, expecting he'll get a shot against a righty late and he comes through with a massive hit.  Then he gets Hoffman right back out there to redeem himself and he delivers.

Sometimes you need to put some faith and trust in your players.  That's how you earn their respect and build a winning culture.

I wish it was 92. We had Tom Henke and Duane ward as our 8 and 9 inning shut down duo. Henke had a 2.26 era with 34 saves and Ward was 1.95 with 12 saves. Ward 103 ko and 39bb in 101.1 innings and Henke 46ko and 22bb on 55.2 inn. a 1.95 era in 101.1 games with 103 ko is why Jays didn't resign Henke for 1993.

Jays made a toss up decision as in 93 Ward had 45 saves in 71.2inn over 71 games 97 ko. Henke though did well with 40 svs 79ko in 74.2 in 66 games.

Its still Vlad realistically, but... without Springer bouncing waaay back, Bo and Kirk bouncing back, Barger taking a real step forward, even Varsho's power resurgence in his limited time... 

I'd put Springer at the top of the "comeback player of the year" pile, but not quite MVP.

Yep!! I was just watching highlights again and seeing him pumped after that slide into home put a big ol' smile on my face. He looks like he's having some fun and he's kicking a##. This was a big win tonight, especially after almost all teams that we are competing with for playoff spots and seeds won today. (Sorry Tigers)

24 hours after the gut punch of losing game 2 of this series and the Jays have the best record in the AL. Baseball.

Wins are wins, and another game off the schedule. Doesn’t matter how you get them at this point.

Realistically going by pure fWAR, Kirk is the most valuable. But when your into the weeds if being separated by decimal points, it becomes more subjective for sure.

Vlad is the straw that stirs the drink for the Jays. As he goes, they go for the most part. Thats my rationale. I generally dont break down most valuable into raw counting stats. Springers defense is so bad this season they had to move him to DH, so...thats gives Vlad the edge to me from an overall standpoint. 

Never thought id be using Vlads defense as a reason for defending his value...but here we are 

Kirk 3.8, Vlad and George 3.5, Bo 3.3
