    won't be able to come up in the 9th unless jays already won game. say score 2, 2 out, that's 4 batters. would need to then have bases loaded for george to come up again. anything else, he doens't come up in the 9th. any other hits/walks, jays win, any other other outs, either goes extra or jays loose. so strategically makes sense to replace a slower runner at this stage of the game where if anyone after had hit a single, he could have scored from 2nd.

    should have replaced george at 1st with straw or ikf soon as he walked. george slowed due to knee and side injuries. if don't score there, then doesn't matter for having weaker bat later as later won't happen.

    except changes how pitcch to every one after shohei so chances are less likely to score 3 runs, more likely to have only given up 1 and had better chance NOT to let dodgers score with 1 on, 2 out, then with bases loaded because scared to pitch to 2 batters.

    sounds bad, but mistake to walk shohei in that at bat.... gausman had already ko'd him earlier, might as well give him the chance to get him again. intent walk just gives him and dodgers a boost that you are scared of them. didn't help being too careful with freeman either.

    at this point even with no chance of reverse call, have the replay. gives time for pen to warm up and can take out hoffman and put in fisher or rodi.

    god, hoffman again, 2nd straight game.... why not use dominguez or rodriguez? can't trust hoffman in tight games like this.

    if they hold on, they have chance to face a tampa team with jays killer Yandy Diaz out of lineup. pulled his groin today, they might shut him down for rest of season, which makes their lineup a bit easier to handle for last 3 games.

    that's why you hit and run, or rather run and hit. take a chance with vlad to make contact and lukes has enough speed to maybe force an error. you've lost 6 of 7 games and have had only 4 or less hits in each of those games... it's time to start taking chances and change how you are playing.

    i've said for years they need to drop Pete Walker as pitching coach. With every other coach and manager change that they have done over last 10yrs how does he still have a job when he takes good pitchers makes them mediocre or takes avg pitchers and gets them hurt every single year? He was a low level player who was a miracle hire and has done little or nothing to really improve the careers of any pitcher he's had on staff. If anything, he has helped limit and ruin potential with what he has done.

    lukes should have been running on contact in 1st when vlad ground out. jays again trying to play for the big hit instead of small ball cost them a run. with the way they have played the last 2 weeks can't afford NOT to score on those types of chances.

    a little too optimistic there. Jays would need to win 3 of last 4 games now, and that means at least 2 if not all three againts Tampa who has ALWAYS been a pain in their side and they struggle to play against. Schedule was really biased gainst the Jays making them play what, 7 games against Tampa in the last 2 weeks of the season.

    Except that this is all Kirk has. He's not a power hitter regardless of what the talking voices try to say and what he does have NEEDS him to have the weight since he doesn't have the height to have long and strong enough arms to be a consistent power hitter.

    Blue Jays choking again..... almost as bad as 1985. Had 5 game lead on division with 12 games left and now looking to be a wildcard team....

    I wish it was 92. We had Tom Henke and Duane ward as our 8 and 9 inning shut down duo. Henke had a 2.26 era with 34 saves and Ward was 1.95 with 12 saves. Ward 103 ko and 39bb in 101.1 innings and Henke 46ko and 22bb on 55.2 inn. a 1.95 era in 101.1 games with 103 ko is why Jays didn't resign Henke for 1993. Jays made a toss up decision as in 93 Ward had 45 saves in 71.2inn over 71 games 97 ko. Henke though did well with 40 svs 79ko in 74.2 in 66 games.

    Rauch managed 11 saves in 2011. The Jays went through a number of closers that year. Only managed 33 saves that year and 29 in 2012. to put in perspective they had a team of 45 svs in 2010(Gregg had 37) and in 2013 had 28 with Jansen getting 34.

    Ryan long considered one of worst signings by the Jays. He might have topped 20 saes for them a few times, but NONE of his saves were easy or relaxing to watch. Batista fits in the category of 'I forgot he was a closer for the Jays'. I would have had Gregg but found Giles for nail biting to watch. Heck though he wasn't in role long, the Jays had Tim Crabtree closing games at times. Then guys like Brett Cecil, Tim Mayza, Kelvim Escobar, Mike Timlin, Jeremy Accardo, Frank Francisco and Darren Hall.

    there's quite a few but I wanted to bring up some that were around previous editions of the team group and after they won their WS in 90s. The ones I mentioned are just a few. There's at least a 12 more I could name without really researching anything and some that are like "They were on teh Jays and used to close games?"
