John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 yariel cant even throw a strike right now... and Cowser is up. I can't even picture a positive outcome of this PA.

Like... use Bassitt as an example. A few starts ago he guts through 6 innings walks the tightrope, bends, but doesnt break and ends up giving the pen a break by eating up those innings. Some fans see starts like that .. the timing of them and make the leap that the pitcher was just somehow able to summon some extra fortitude on demand in order to clutch up. Fast-forward to his last start and he got the sh*t kicked out of him, so it must be because he wasn't focused or wasnt trying. Same thing with Berrios. It's just that psychological projection that fans have with all sports. Its 99% made up and just helps fans either lay blame, or feel better. I can't agree with this at all. Anyone who has played a sport knows that you have days where just feel really locked in and focused, maybe you have something extra in the tank. Athletes themselves say these kinds of things in their postgame interviews, including Bassitt himself. These guys aren't superhuman, they don't feel the exact same every day. They call these the dog days of summer for a reason. It's difficult to stay focused in this part of the season and inevitably, some players aren't. It's certainly not some made up voodoo to appease stupid fans.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 The thing about Rodriguez is his command is always scattergun, it's just nobody notices because he usually gets away with it with his stuff. neverbeenhere 1
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Ernie breaking Cal Ripken's consecutive games played streak despite having a 50 wRC+ against RHP is a lot more palatable when he's actually playing defense. He's been responsible for like half the O's runs with his defense. Spanky__99 1

My point is, there's no correlation/causation to feeling "locked in" to performance. I'm willing to bet if there was a way to scientifically study what happens to every player on every day they felt "locked in" vs any other day, the same variances would exist. Humans make up all kinds of psychological stuff that isnt quantifiable to make themselves feel better about what happens in their day to day. That's how our brains work.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 24 pitches... 10 strikes for Yariel. That's no bueno.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 And now Mullins, the magic blue jays killer this week. Fisher has 0 room for error. Stangstag 1
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Pitching immediately turned to garbage as soon as Kirk got injured… coincidence?? Maybe his game-calling is underrated Spanky__99 and Wake n bake 2
HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Yariel also pitched yesterday and would have been out of this inning if the Jays defense played better. Spanky__99 1
