Roden will be 26 next year. I know that he has some options left, but Loper and Barger have passed him as the LHH age cohort.

Some were going to be Rule 5'd.

How many Outfielders do they need?

Lol there is no way in hell a slap hitting LF like Roden would be getting 140 million over the next 6 years. He might be a non-tender candidate by the time he enters arb.

He's not getting paid that. That's roughly how much that WAR is worth.

This front office sucks man, im done with them.

We are not gonna do anything in the playoffs. Gonna get bounced by the Yankees and then have to hear from their obnoxious fans all winter.

Hopeful yes. Confident.... no, but that could just be my inner pessimist personality rearing its ugly head.

I could see Scherzer/Manoa alternating starts down the stretch.

I don't see how we get 7 starters on the roster.  I doubt we go with a 6 man bullpen..lol

Varland and Seranthony are both top 20 qualified RP by average fastball velo

Varland has been as good as Mason Miller this year by results

Varland has very recent SP experience. He was bad last year but his pitch mix is completely different now

He may be a stud?

If he starts next year, I love this.

So assuming Santander is out and everyone else comes back for the playoffs, our lineup and bench could be something like this:

  1. LF- Lukes/Schneider (L/R)
  2. DH/RF- Springer
  3. 1B- Vlad
  4. SS- Bo
  5. 3B- Barger (L)
  6. C- Kirk
  7. CF- Varsho (L)
  8. RF/DH- Loperfido/France (L/R)
  9. 2B- Gimenez/Clement (L/R)
  • C- Heineman (S)
  • 2B/LF- Schneider
  • 1B- France
  • UT- Clement
  • OF- Straw

He would sign a 1 year 4 million dollar deal with a team option if he were a FA

France must have been just a throw in? I just don't see how he fits other than maybe DHing twice a week and pinch hitting.

If he recovers from his back injury, I like the profile of Josh Kasevich as a utility guy more than Roden, too.

You are massively underestimating someone who had a bad first taste of the majors.

France is probably even odds to even survive on the roster until the playoffs

Which all begs the question - why did the Twins trade him?

Even if he doesn't start and he's a reliable back end bullpen arm for years to come.  I'm plenty happy.

Yeah that was prior to the murderers row bullpen they just put together

How long is the list of relievers who are good for 5 years?

I mean the twins could have been the one's pushing for us to take france....whatever. We got 2 decent bullpen pieces.  I lobbied in the offseason to get bieber.  I think he's going to be an ace.

I think everyone is underrating Roden.

This. I expect him to be an absolute hitting machine for the Twins, but their fans are all (understandably) seeing red right now.

The Twins don't have all these guys by coincidence. They think they can just make new ones.

they also are being sold. Although worrying about varland's money is weird. We did pay a lot.

France will take over Wagner's backup 1B role

I think he's criminally over rated by many on this board...lol  I don't think he will amount to anything.

Lol

The Jays add the best starter available in all of MLB and two good relievers

The Yankees also add two good relievers and a bunch of slop and somehow we are doomed while the Yankees are destined for playoff greatness

Nevermind the fact that we've been beating the breaks off of them all season and have a solid lead AND their best player may have fried his elbow

Jays got a starter and 2 relievers but not a sure closer...which may hurt this team later on. So a good deadline but not great.

Here are the number of blown saves this year by some of the guys dealt today

Finnegan 6 (20 saves)

Shelby Miller 5 (10)

Jake Bird 6 (0)

Iglesias 5 (12)

Helsley 5 (21)

Jax 5 (0)

Mason miller 3 (20)

Bednar 0 (17) this one surprised me

doval 4 (15)

Duran 2 (16)

Hoffman 4 (25)

Hoffman’s 4 isn’t as bad as people think it is.

I'd definitely take Roden over Loperfido.

I think our bullpen is much improved for this year though. Maybe one more rental reliever but varland and dominquez are good adds. I just don't like the price.

Adding Bieber to our playoff rotation is huge and that alone could be bigger than pretty much everything the Yankees did in total.

The one thing I will credit the Yankees with, however, is that they once again didn't have to give up jack s*** for what they got. And that includes the two good hard throwing relievers who they got for free.

So I think we got better than they did but we definitely gave up more. Unfortunately, MLB has a shadow rule that the Yankees only have to pay 70 cents on the dollar for their trades so there is nothing we can do about that.
