I'm not going to hate on Atkins for now because there's still a ton of options out there, but these reliever deals are extremely cheap. There's no excuse not to get something done here.

I get the feeling for sure, but ... gotta keep in mind we have no idea what these other teams were asking from us.

As you know, it's not like FOs are just looking at top prospect lists and thinking "we need to get a top 50, and another top 100" or... "we need at least 2 of their top 10... etc, nor do we know what other teams are prioritizing.

Clearly Cherington was looking at catchers (at least it seems that way) in return for Bednar... Jays just don't have any catching prospects worth a damn right now. It could literally be that simple (and stupid imo) as to why they didnt match up regardless of where the ultimate return is on a prospect list vs our guys.

We do know theres a ton of "We like these guys better than others"... because that's how it always works. Why they value the others could be any number of things... maybe their minor league scouting staff has way more looks at certain guys than others... maybe the few times theyve seen our guys they had bad games... there's like an infinite # of reasons really...

I almost like the return the Rockies got for Jake Bird more than what the Pirates got for Bednar

Ben Cherington should be jailed and stand trial for crimes against humanity the second he steps foot in the country of Canada

I feel for the Pirates fans. They get to watch their org completely waste one of the best pitchers of the past 20 years and an electric and marketable talent like Cruz because their owner is a cheap POS and their GM is Cherington.

If you go by fangraphs the bednar one is better.

i'd have happily done both  though and i don't even like bednar that much.

AJ Preller treating every season like it could be his last one on earth has to be fun as a fan. I guess as long as he keeps replenishing the farm system.

Its been like 8 years and I wonder how the hell the Padres keep getting all these assets to make these type of trades.  They've emptied the cupboard 5 times during that time lol.

I love Preller. I'm convinced that he is just uber confident that he can replenish, And he has been mostly right.

He's so off the ghoul like behavior of most of the league that i love it.

Damn. I figured the Jays would have landed another good reliever by now.

Coming off the board quickly

I'd love to know what Atkins is doing right now. Is he actually making calls or just siting clicking his pen hoping someone calls him back lowering their demands

Seems he does well as a seller but not so great as a buyer (always calls up his Cleveland buddies)

Preller and Atkins are like... polar opposites of the GM world.

Pretty sure his track record is awful and he'd have been better off not making most of these trades. The Soto trades alone are brutal.

He sure is fun when the trade deadline roles around though.

Saw a tweet this morning that said he's traded something like 60 players and acquired 40 over the last several deadlines. Traded away 24 future WAR and acquired 16. I don't know the exact figures but that's the main point.

When you're a seller (in almost anything really), personality and how people perceive you is really important. Ross doesn't give off that type of essence so most GMs won't deal with him as a seller unless Ross overpays. When you sell, chances are usually better that you'll do well. It's just how it is and Ed Rogers doesn't have the awareness to see it.

You aren't supposed to win deadline deals. If you do something is wrong honestly. You are generally trading years of control for rentals.

He finds good players with future value and then trades them and then repeats over and over again.

Us flipping austin martin is fine, but i'd prefer if we just didn't miss on the pick instead.
