We have more developments this morning related to the Toronto Blue Jays offseason. Yesterday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today said that the Jays are "still interested" in Pete Alonso. Now, Héctor Gómez is reporting that they have a three-year offer out to him and a six-year offer out to Alex Bregman.

The fit would be interesting if both players were to accept. Adding Alonso would push Vladimir Guerrero Jr over to the hot corner. Alex Bregman has stated that he is open to playing second base, but the Jays have newly acquired Andrés Giménez at the Keystone. As of now, Will Wagner is penciled in as the teams designed hitter, but he projects to be more of a bench bat than a full-time player. If Alonso and Bregman were to accept their respective deals, they could theoretically play a game of musical chairs at DH.

While it would be interesting to see how that works out, it's a no brainer to add both if the Jays can pull that off.

The other board I've been getting a few rumours from has banned the guy that said we had a signed deal out for Alonso so I'm going to make the tough decision that he was BSing lol.

I am aware that the Jays have the budget room to sign both, especially if the rumblings of Bregman having a 6 year deal with an opt out after year 1 is true.

I'm hearing that Boss Atkins is preparing some HEAVY DEFERRALS this weekend

Stay tuned

The Jays saw diminishing returns on Springer’s contract by year 3 of 6, and he wasn’t showing any sign of decline when signed. Bregman for the same term sounds like a really bad idea. I guess it’s good for 2025, which might be the intention especially if they can’t sign Vlad, but it’s likely going to age poorly. Kinda hoping for Alonso for that reason, best case he opts out after 2025, worst case it’s a Bellinger situation with the Cubs.

Rumour is Bregman and his camp arrived in Dunedin yesterday and are expected to finalize details sometime this weekend. Expect an announcement early next week

I am *guessing* that the six years would have heavy deferrals and Bregman would be more likely than not to opt out earlier. But we will seeeeeeee soon

My people in Dunedin are texting me some uhhh very spicy things

Ya, Springer just dropped, just imagine what will happen to Vladdy in his early 30s.

Is this an actual rumor or are you just dicking around?

Same question I posed to L54

  1. 3B- Bregman
  2. 1B- Vlad
  3. LF- Taters (S)
  4. DH- Alonso
  5. SS- Bo
  6. RF- Springer
  7. CF- Varsho (L)
  8. C- Kirk
  9. 2B- Gimenez (L)

Getting swept by the Dodgers in the WS will be easy to make

Would definitely be a fun lineup to watch!

We'd have a shot in 2025 with this line up.

There would be a ton of depth on the bench and in the upper minors too. Could probably deal some of it for some decent bullpen arms as well.

Wagner, Clement, Lukes, Loperfido, Jiminez, Clase, Berroa, Schneider, Orelvis, Barger, Kasevich, Roden...

It would have to be an opt out after year 1 given his age, but realistically would he opt out of a guaranteed 5 more years at age 32 even if he had another 4+ WAR season? I feel like the opt out is pointless in this case, unless he has an MVP season in 2025 or something. Teams are reluctant to sign him due to age + term, not money or the QO. The former is going to be even worse when he's a year older in 2026. I mean, if it's a 6 year deal, Bregman has a 5 WAR season and then opts out, then that would be perfect for the Jays, but that also seems pretty unlikely.

If the Jays actually do have a 6 year offer for him, then they are obviously fine taking that risk. He's a well above average bat who rarely strikes out and plays great defense at a position the Jays don't have a long term solution at anywhere in the org. I could see the logic. Just have to be prepared for Springer 2.0.

It's unreal on how Shatkins backed themselves into a corner and Rogers still has not much of a choice but to spend in order to recoup the reno investment. Shapiro really massaged the crap out of the Rogers board along with braindead Ed.

They're dicking around, the joke doesn't land though as Toronto's signing players. IDK.

The joke is everybody nowadays has sources and they’re never correct

Have you been to Home Plate On the Trail diner across from the ballpark?  I go there every time before a ST game.  I've seen Buck, Tabby, and Hazel there on several occasions.

We usually stay in Clearwater Beach next door to Dunedin.  Wish I was going this year now, spring training is so close!

Ever see Pistol Pete there?

Yeah.  I actually didn't mind Barry.  Seemed like a genuine fan of the team.

I hope we never see Arash again.
