Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 Honestly kind of puzzling the Cards let go of him altogether, Kloff still has options. Nice little get for us, guy has familiarity with our system and will provide decent MiLB depth. Hopefully his shoulder injury is behind him and we can right the ship again to his pre-trade trajectory. Pendleton, G-Snarls and Brownie19 3
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2025 Author Posted January 28, 2025 So he has options, I assume he will need to be added to the 40-man in order for us to keep him this year? Could be decent depth if we get until the end of ST to add him. Brownie19 1

I figure there's no requirement for us to add him to the 40-man roster having signed him on a minor league contract. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I think he starts the year at AAA and it's not hard in his position to see a path to getting starts at the MLB level should injuries arise. The org knows him well and he's just about MLB ready as it is. He presently slots behind the top 4, Bloss, Yariel, and around Eric Lauer. Manoah and Ricky T are nonfactors as long as they're injured.

I think this is right. Not on the 40 until they select his contract to MLB (if ever). But it's not uncommon for there to be deadlines or release clauses for guys like this. In his case, he might want to be on the 40 man roster by X date or else they have to cut him loose. Orgfiller and Terminator 2
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2025 Author Posted January 28, 2025 He's probably glad to get back to the org. He was tracking to be a big league pitcher in some capacity and had a bad 2024. I'm sure you're right in that he's got some 40-man requirement of some sort but that won't be too difficult to accommodate if we have until the end of ST. Hopefully he bounces back and is a depth starter for the next couple of years while he has options.
