The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports that free agent RHP David Robertson is throwing for interested teams “within the next week.”

Robertson pitched for the Rangers last season, posting a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings with a 99/27 K/BB ratio. From 2022-24, the 40-year-old averaged 63 appearances per season with a 2.82 ERA, so he has proven that he still can be a quality reliever at the big league level. While many teams were interested in Robertson earlier in the season, the veteran held firm to his contract demands and, as Sammon reports, “clubs failed to meet his asking price.” With the season nearing a close, Robertson’s salary demands are likely to be more acceptable to contenders, so it would not be a surprise to see him sign with a team by the end of the month.

So it was the contract after all.

Urias hasn't pitched in 2 years and he's had 2 DV charges against him, he's toast.

Sounds like a future Astro

I don't see it happening, he's of no help to anyone now, so if it were to happen Texas State would be the likely landing spot. He just has too much baggage imo... Also, f*ck that women beating POS.

I'm in Toledo for my kids ball tournament.  I think the Tigers have an inherent advantage.  If you're in Toledo - you're going to be super focused on playing well so you can leave Toledo. What a sh*thole.

That. Is. Insane.

No crow hop, completely flat footed, he makes the catch near where the warning tracks meet - that's a long way from 3B

As a follow-up, we went to the Mud Hens game last night.  The stadium is really nice and they seemingly support the team well.  Attendance was 10K+. It's obviously the crowning jewel of Toledo.

They played the Cards AAA team and JJ Wetherholt looks incredible.  He was 3 for 4 and continues to carve up the minors.

Troy Melton came in the pitch in relief for the Mud Hens and he was electric.  98 MPH 4 seamer, 88 slider and 78 curve ball.  He could be a weapon for the Tigers down the stretch.

$6M for like 15 appearances plus the playoffs is pretty steep I guess

No doubt. If hed signed for his requested 10 million at the start of the season hed be owed around 3.5 million for the remainder of this season. 6 million is very steep

Rogers wipes their ass with 6 million dollars. I find it impossible to believe that the team would pass on a potential ace reliever because of 6 million f***ing dollars.

I find it hard to believe that most any team trying to contend would.

Rogers is perfectly willing to spend but $6 million for 15-20 innings of a non elite reliever is positively ludicrous.

Dude was pretty elite last year.

You also are getting him for the playoffs.

$6 million for major league baseball franchise and an ownership group like Rogers is absolutely nothing, nothing at all.

I'm sure you'd be fine picking up a Kenley Jansen, so what's the difference another $3 million? Why are we suddenly acting like that's prohibitive money? Consider it the cost of not having to trade a prospect.

It's not even long-term money, it's just for this year.

It's far from a given that Robertson is going to continue being a top reliever. Going strictly from memory guys who signed this late in the past generally haven't performed particularly well. Is Robertson even ready to jump into game action straight away? I had a peek at the announcement from Ken Rosenthal, and with the Phillies being over the 4th luxury tax level their total cost for a few months of Robertson is $12 million. For a 40 year old reliever that won't likely be ready for a few weeks at minimum that's a hard pass for me.

I assume Toronto did their due diligence and maybe they came to the conclusion that they didn't feel he was worth it for one reason or another. Maybe he didn't want to come here anyway.

My only contention is that money should not be the issue and I don't think would have been the issue. If the Blue Jays' front office really wanted him I don't think Rogers would have balked at the $6 million price tag is my point.

Yeah it's not that Rogers won't spend that

It's just that they probably don't have enough confidence he will be an elite reliever so they aren't spending that
