The information in this article is all over the place. The Jays offered a "franchise record" contract. Someone (maybe) offered $250 million but we don't know who is was.

If the Jays offered $250 million and were turned down, that's pretty damning... but I doubt that's the case. I'm skeptical of the $250 million offer at all, considering how much Burnes signed for in Arizona.

But who knows? Maybe that opt-out after year two was really, really important to him.

The 250-ish over 7 years rumours were out there for a while in terms of what the Jays were speculated to have on the table for him. There will likely never be a concrete irrefutable answer to what the offer was though, because the people who could give that irrefutable answer would never speak about it in that much detail.

Speculation is this could have been Toronto or Baltimore

Can't rule out the Red Sox or Yankees though. They could have offered that before pivoting to Fried Pickles and Crotch Rocket

I have little to no use for Reddit but I do want a forum that's easy to follow with clearly delineated topics. And, as a person who has been running forums for over 20 years, so do most users.

Okay. Fair enough.

To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to change their posting behavior. If you like super-duper-mega-threads, have at it. But I may occasionally split off a thread or start my own thread if it feels news-worthy. I generally have a pretty light touch on things but there are certain points I want to hit to draw in new users.

Any chance you can fix the "Go to first new post" feature on the site?

It's doesn't always take me to the first new post, a lot of times it takes me to the first new post from a few days ago and then I'm scrolling trying to find where I last left off.

It works well on other sites I use and it's glorious.

Yes please. This would be great to get figured out. It used to work flawlessly then a couple years ago it stopped functioning and has never been fixed

We'll be relaunching under entirely new software where clicking on the thread title automatically takes you to your last read post.

As long as this place doesn't become the place where every snippet of "Jays were interested in X player..." a week after they signed elsewhere just for rage ckick generation from casuals...fine

There is a rumors section of the sites but I do most of the topic creation and rarely do posting after the fact. It's not super-informative most of the time and, as you said, just fodder to bring out the worst in people. Here is an example of the Cubs rumor section (which automatically cross-posts to the forum).

NORTHSIDEBASEBALL.COM

The most recent Chicago Cubs trade rumors and trade targets.

As for *how* these cross-post to the forum, we'll have open conversations about that. Each site has their own preferences and I try to give everybody a say in how things work/post.

Does this mean Spanky is no longer going to be encoded into the forum software?

My gut tells me this is going to be like The Terminator movies where they try and disconnect from the embedded Spanky software and it just starts taking over the world.

We will all remember where we were the moment SpankyNet became self aware on December 31,2024 @ 11:59pm just as the new JaysCentre.com launched.

I don’t think it matters. They didn’t sign him. It was pretty evident he wanted to be in Arizona. Playing what it games gets us nowhere.

Pretty sure the last time I tried to ban him my laptop just started smoking and the power went out.

This forum seems a bit behind. On my phone it seems to remember where I was months ago. If some quotes me and replies to me on other forums I get a message in alerts and if I click on it it takes me directly to the post that replied to me. On this site ... nothing. Don't know if anyone replied to me.

Long mega threads seem kind if dumb. Every other forum have numerous subtopics the stay on one topic. This forum won't allow political talk, which makes sense to avoid arguments and name calling, but then everyone here seems to do that anyway. If you're going to call people ****ing cock gobblers then at least do it over politics or religion than some dumbass thing like whether you agree with pulling Swanson in the 7th or not pinch hitting for Varsho.

I don't know how much you read the OT forum back in the day, but the vitriol and toxicity on the forum back when politics was allowed was like 10x what we have now on the main forum about baseball issues. Years of the same people arguing about politics led to toxicity and bitterness that spilled over into the main forum almost every time one of the frequent politics arguers posted about baseball. It ****ing sucked.
