saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 I’ve lost 2 bets here already from being too optimistic, with my luck i’d lose this bet for being too conservative. And I wouldn’t be willing to wager a “large amount” anyways. Too many variables involved in this game. That being said, I don’t think Vlad gets 300 million unless he repeats his 2021 next year. It could happen, but if im the Blue Jays GM im not risking the future based on how Vlad looks right now. I want to see some consistency with Vlad. Vlad is a big part of why this team has underperformed expectations the past couple years. I'm not really going to make a rather large bet. That's just internet talk. We can revisit this in a year and a half from now..lol
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 I think Vlad will get $300 plus. Just not from the Blue Jays. *Caveat is if ownership steps in and forces a hand. Then it would still be $300 plus, just heavily deferred.

If Vlad signs for 300+ million this forum will be a bloodbath for a few weeks lol

I would have genuine concerns how they expect to put a winning team around him. It is an absolutely terrible idea. If he went back to a sub .800 OPS hitter which he’s been most of his career… we would be royally f***ed. It would be one thing if he provided anything else of value. He’s a border liability on the field as is at 25.

The killer HRs aside, is it mechanical or mental. The control and movement isn't there. I wonder if that fiasco with the Twins has anything to do with it.

Are you referring to the early pull in the playoffs? It seems like a bit of a stretch to suggest that an early pull in the playoff suddenly make Berrios's pitches far more hittable and for him to lose his ability to garner swings and misses.

He was very young to start and young hitters are often inconsistent/struggle. He's been above that mark 3 of the last 4 years and more importantly he's had a 166, 133, and 159 wrc+ in those three seasons. Those are very good hitting seasons. The one year he was below that mark was the only season of the four where he also significantly underperformed his peripheral stats. I do think we can consider that at least partially unlucky. He does suck on the field and may get moved to DH. But there's been some reconsideration on the penalty DHs get when calculating WAR. DHs are probably more valuable than they've been measured as, so that's an additional consideration.

It's difficult to determine what the issue is but IMO the in game strategy (which is pulled from the teams analytics) is a factor. His Stuff+ is below league average so there's that I wonder if that fiasco with the Twins has anything to do with it. for sure, this fiasco impacted the entire team/organization.
Nexii Verified Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Vlad's been around 4 WAR the last 4 years, which is good for 25-30M AAV. No way they give him 10 years though. I could see like 7/200M

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Vlad has turned the corner. He's discovered the golden ticket. The talent has always been there. Looking at 22 and 23 is ridiculous. He's a top 5 hitter in the game. Just pay the man.

WryNGinger Verified Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 It feels more like I watching a team that a few guys I know got traded to. 2/3 of the roster I don't really know at this point.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Ooo that was a great play at 3rd
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 FFS, Schneider REALLY loves pulling pitchers one out away from getting a win.

Players must hate this type of culture, very robotic. How do you not show the man respect and let him face Soto up by two runs with nobody on. That's just bad dynamics imo.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 This ump is not having a good day
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Damn, Kirk needs to pump some more iron.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 Jays get walked off... Schneider and Kirk with warning track power, Soto had just enough to get his off the top of the wall
