It’s certainly part of it. The Covid season fast tracked things and they started throwing money around banking Vlad and Bo being Superstars. It has resulted in 0 playoff wins a current team that’s nowhere near a playoff team.

Shame on you for wanting playoff victories. That is naive fandom. The playoffs are merely a function of randomness and luck. They have no baring on measuring success whatsoever don’t ya know? For me, I rank watching a good “deep count”, over say Jose’s game 5 shot vs Texas in the 2015 playoffs or Edwin’s 2016 wildcard walk off.

C'mon. Who has ever said that?

Goal #1 is to build a good team that is going to make the playoffs frequently. That way you have more chances at actually winning in the playoffs.

Once the playoffs start, anything can happen and yeah, you need some luck on your side along with having a really good team.

First of all, I don't even know what your point was because I don't know what you posted. My response was towards the multiple posts s***ing on Romano calling him over rated etc.

Like, did I quote you? No

So don't assume it was a direct response to any point you may have been making.

2021

2022

2023

2024

All those stats I posted are FACTS and accumulated over a 3 1/4 season sample size.

He's only blown 12 saves in 3.25 seasons while saving the 4th most in all of MLB at 102

He's also only lost 13 games against 18 wins.

He's been absolutely and unequivocally effective. There is no way to argue against those numbers, which are FACTS.

Dude, we are not arguing about saves and Romero. We look at splits and counter with everything in baseball. You can be the best hitter in baseball for 5 yrs against RHP, but horrible against LHP. You can be the best pitcher against lefties, but atrocious against RHB.

There are pitchers who dominate the 8th or 1 inning of work, you put them in the 9 or for two innings they suck.

We need to recognize that Romano has not been effective in non save situations for two seasons and adapt.

Now, what the Jays can do about it with what they currently have, I don’t know.

But same as Springer in the lead off spot and countless other examples. The metrics don’t support Romano in non save situations.

Then why did you even respond to my post? Clearly I was talking about how effective he's been as a closer for over 3 years now and I never quoted you.

People say he's over rated. I say (and the stats back me up) he gets the job done very effectively.

Will he continue to do so going forward? I don't know. But he has to this point.

Well simply to distinguish that you can be both a great closer in save situations and a horrible option in non save. Being that today’s situation where he sucked was a non-save situation.

And how about last week in Baltimore when he sucked in a save situation?

Most of Romano's saves he struggles and puts opponents on base. Very rarely does he dominate a team closing games

He did lose his job at the very very end of last year to Hicks in a key save situation. We really didn't know who the closer would be in the postseason and it never came up, but Schneider had lost confidence in Romano.

Romano is not a bad closer he's just not a dominant one. I've never been in love with the guy as a closer, he's probably the best option we've had overall in the last several years, but ideally if we're a World Series contender I would like somebody a little more dominant than him. It doesn't matter anymore, he won't be here the next time we contend.
