I don't really think Shapiro involves himself in the day to day of baseball ops. Could see things working fine if Shapiro brings in a new head of baseball ops from a quality org and continues to do whatever it is he does to convince Rogers to continue spending to the luxury tax and making investments like the development complex.

Not day to day but its tighter than you are inferring. I know for certain that Atkins has very clear and minimal thresholds for approvals that he can make on his own. If he wants to DFA Wes Parsons no problem. Anything material potentially affecting rev and budget spend forecasts, capex, assets and valuations that have been sold to the BOD, he need input and approval from Shapiro. Every large pubco has these approval mechanisms in place for pretty obvious reasons.

On another note Manoah looks good! lol.

Right, but how much input does Shapiro actually have when it comes to personnel decisions, whether player or coaches? My sense is that Atkins would be given a budget, maybe after some negotiation, and then operate within that budget and in alignment with the broad direction and priorities of the team. For example, when the team needed a 3B this offseason, Shapiro might have had to approve the deal that was ultimately signed, but it was up to Atkins and his staff to go to Shapiro with the solution they wanted approved. Similarly, I'd expect it to be Atkins and his staff responsible for identifying and recruiting hiring the various directors (scouting, player development etc...) even if Shapiro is signing off at the end.

Too early to start jawing Alek.

Meh. If that’s how he needs to get himself pumped up, so be it. Do it as long as you’re good. A little fire would probably help the team. That said, I’m not for pimling 8th inning HR down 6.

Manoah being cocky after a strikeout is like pimping a home run down 20 runs lol

100% yes. Shapiro has quite a bit of input on major and material player or coaches decisions for public and fiscal reasons. The key point is it is Shapiro's responsibility and duty to question, give input and sign off. And if he isn't sure he takes it to Rogers and small working committee of Board that has been established. Its far from a rubber stamp for Ross, as these are big dollars and important to Rogers integrated strategy, but his team does most of the sourcing of players, coaches, Manager etc. We agree.

Idk man. We usually agree on a lot things, but not here.

There’s probably a lot of emotion here. He’a obviously an alpha male with a lot of pride. He’s been hearing for 1.5 how bad he sucks, he’s a fat f***, etc. which I’m not saying was unwarranted. However, being in his shoes, it’s easy to see how he’s going to be fired up along the way if he’s good again

I mean I agree that I want Manoah to do everything he needs to be his best self so if that includes shouting at batters after a strikeout then sure... just meant that it does look douchey from the outside given his struggles. Same applies to Vladdy doing the hush thing during his home run trot when he had 4 Home Runs all year lol.

Oh yeah, I’m with you on Vlad for sure and I like Vlad

And yeah, at face value I could agree on the optics of Manoah, but I think if you peer under the hood, it’s easy to understand.

Approval is way different than actually being involved in decisions.

Yeah.

I highly doubt Shapiro is telling Atkins which players to target and/or trade for. Atkins presents the plans to Shapiro, Shapiro confirms what Atkins process was to arrive at the conclusions he did, and signs off on whatever plan(s) he likes the best.

So he's involved, just not.... involved

So if he signs off on the decisions he is effectively… making the decisions

How the f*** wasn't that a strike based on all the ******** the umps been calling today

The second strike call to Lowe was a ball and put him in an 0-2 hole, so it is going both ways.

Approval in my business also means accountability. Ergo, if Shapiro's underling is not performing and Shapiro doesn't/hasn't take/en corrective actions, it is ultimately on Shapiro.

Confidence can be a powerful thing. Maybe you're right.

Ump with another generous strike call

Wasnt generous at all. Remember the TV zone SUCKS at showing the proper upper limit. TV zone is about perfect for inside/outside, but garbage for up/down.

Savant has the pitch half a ball inside the strike zone.
