L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Author Posted May 23, 2024 We are basically in the same boat. The team's window appears as though it may be rapidly closing and the bare minimum I'd be happy with is at least making the playoffs. I'd far prefer to see the team finally perform in the playoffs and win a round or two. Yes I have to amend my answer If they get swept in a WC round again it’s still a failure Win one game
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 There's a huge difference between the two "Teams" and this post misses it. When one side says, "Don't Panic" after a 4-6 road trip to start the season it's not a prediction. When that same team gets another month and a half of information and then says "It's Not Over Yet" when the team is 3.5 games out of a playoff spot with 114 left, that's not a prediction either. It's simply a wait and see approach. But the Debbie Downers can't handle this. Nothing other than unbridled rage and declaring Ross Atkins the worst GM in baseball will suffice. So they can go ahead and declare the season is over in April/May if they want but I don't think that's true yet. There's too much baseball left to be played and we still have a 20% chance to make the playoffs according to Fangraphs. And I trust Fangraphs' analysis a whole lot more than the Debbie Downers, most of whom put barely any stock in advanced statistics and instead rely on their knee-jerk emotional reactions to what they see with their untrained eyes. 20% is not good at all considering the expectations going into the season. Most of us are upset because the odds should look a lot better but too many guys have been underperforming... similar issue to last year.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Everyone can handle wait and see lol Has anyone advocated selling yet? A single person? It’s good that you can read Fangraphs like everybody else, but it’s not particularly enlightening I understand that your eye is untrained but that’s not the case for everybody here Some have, yes. Usually after each loss a handful of people come out and say "SELL EVERYONE, START THE REBUILD"

These percentages can change very quickly with a hot streak so there's no need to read too much into them at this point.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 Yes I have to amend my answer If they get swept in a WC round again it’s still a failure Win one game I'd go so far as to say its still a failure if they lose the WC round. Losing in the first round 3 seasons in a row isn't acceptable with a payroll this high IMO.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 I understand that your eye is untrained but that’s not the case for everybody here Who here is the best trained scout? I would love to know what their qualifications are
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 I'm firmly on the sell everyone, rebuild train. This team f***ing sucks. I can acknowledge that selling is PROBABLY the best course of action, but the fan inside of me wants to see them just f***ing go for it. It really just depends what the record is like around mid-July and how guys are performing. There's no reason to sell earlier than that since the return would be minimally affected.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Author Posted May 23, 2024 Who here is the best trained scout? I would love to know what their qualifications are What is the training for becoming a scout? What are the objective measures for a successful 2024 season for you?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 What is the training for becoming a scout? What are the objective measures for a successful 2024 season for you? I have no idea you said we have trained eyes on the board and I'm wondering the hell that might be lol, can't say I trust anyone on here to evaluate players with their eyes better than advanced stats can

Checks out

Checks out Just wanted to ask the CEO of team whiney mofos if we are allowed to start feeling better about the team lately. That makes 3 games in the last 4 where they've scored nine runs. If memory serves that's 4 of the last 9 games scoring 9 runs as well.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 You’re allowed to do whatever you want I’m not your mom Given how definitively you've been proclaiming the season to be over I was under the impression you were claiming to be some sort of expert.

Buddy they beat the worst team in the league and the perpetual basement dwelling Tigers but go off sure
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Buddy they beat the worst team in the league and the perpetual basement dwelling Tigers but go off sure They haven't just been beating these teams, they've been literally dominating them. They obviously aren't fully out of the woods yet but it's a damn good start.

Since May 19 they are sixth in the league with a 125 wRC+. They’re also sixth in pitching WAR in that time frame with 0.7 and a 2.50 ERA

They’re also sixth in pitching WAR in that time frame with 0.7 and a 2.50 ERA The pitching has largely been very solid over the last few weeks. Both of Gausman and Bassitt have been improving and Manoah was downright fantastic in his last two starts. Kikuchi looks like an ace and Berrios has largely resumed from where he left off last season. If the offense can even be incrementally better the team will have a shot to win a lot of games.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Green and Francis both pitched today for the Bisons. Yariel the other day as well. Getting close to a fully stocked bullpen for the first time this season. Hopefully they get a lot of mop up duty going forward while they iron out the kinks.

I see very little possibility Green is going to be forced into a mopup role.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 I meant the bullpen as whole, because hopefully the Jays win a lot of games like tonight....9-1 Just joking around I'll fully admit that went completely over my head. Given the recent tenor of the board I'm not used to seeing jokes that require the offense to be good.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 Buddy they beat the worst team in the league and the perpetual basement dwelling Tigers but go off sure I love how when the Blue Jays have a hot two or three games, guys like Max and Brownie come back on the board and go off like they do. When the Jays lose games and play awful, they disappear and you never even see them. But yeah World Series here we come after winning 2 of 3 against the White Sox and crushing the Tigers in Game 1!
