max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Good riddance, Shittiago Espitrash Hopefully you can stop using this completely awful cringe inducing nickname.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Author Posted March 21, 2024 Red Sox? I was referring to the original Steve Pearce trade as the joke lol
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Good on Ross to get over his yips on having to part ways with a player who had success in the MLB vs a player who has not. I know Ross also has a liking for Lantigua, as do I, bumps him up the pecking order.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 McElvain looks like a future reliever to me, but that probably ticks his stuff up to slightly above average on all 3 pitches. Can't complain about that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 He can spin the breaking ball and the fastball has good shape, just not enough velo. Close though. 92.7 mph 17.5 IVB Slider is 81.4 with 2400 rpm To put this in perspective, he's already better than Manoah
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Looks like Clement's ST performance finally forced Ross Atkins hand....see ya Espy.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Good It's about time some pruction comes from the farm system again Clement kinda reminds me of Tim Anderson. Slim build and a similar swing, same low walk rate but Ernie has more contact and less power. High AVG/BABIP guy, he’ll live and die by the BABIP gods.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 With all the bitching here about Espinal, end result is 5 WAR over a season and a half worth of at bats and the Jays paying the league minimum. We can only hope that a prospect like Pearson who the team has spent a lot more effort and resources on gets to that level. The team did well with Espinal and he had a good run. Time to move as there are better options for the Jays.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 This might be the first Atkins trade that no one bitches about Words might never be more true concerning the makeup of this team, and the return is intriguing, I wish Espy well.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 I was referring to the original Steve Pearce trade as the joke lol Doesn't make sense...

Key22 Verified Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Salary dump - hey now we have a roster spot free for Jordan Montgomery.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 It's crazy how reliably a surplus sorts itself out. The story for the Reds was their glut of position players, but their season hasn't started and they're out Friedl, Marte, McClain, and Arroyo long term.

The story for the Reds was their glut of position players, but their season hasn't started and they're out Friedl, Marte, McClain, and Arroyo long term. It looked like they would be sitting a good position player on the bench every day and now they can barely get enough guys to cover the infield
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Steve Pearce tree Spanky Oh, okay, now I get it.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Oh, okay, now I get it. Not a bad return for Stevey P though
Joltin Joe Verified Member Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Espinal looked like good played first of it. Then back peddled. He was good natural athlete. Surprising
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Espinal looked like good played first of it. Then back peddled. He was good natural athlete. Surprising He was smaller and more mobile when he came up I think he added mass to try and add power and it took away too much of his speed and mobility. And defensive talent.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 I think he has major leg/knee/foot issues. Dude runs like a 40 yr old Pujols. That would also make sense. Some players just play through injuries and we never hear of them. He did IMO become weirdly slow and stiff, almost suddenly
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 That would also make sense. Some players just play through injuries and we never hear of them. He did IMO become weirdly slow and stiff, almost suddenly This isn't really displayed by his top end running numbers though. He came up to MLB averaging 27.0 ft/second on the bases. This only dropped to 26.9 feet/second last season. His running splits got worse by a similarly small margin as well. To my eyes the glovework is the biggest factor in his defense that declined as he started clanking a lot of plays that should have been completely routine. On top of that he started making a lot of mental errors in the field as well which compounded the issues further.
