Holy crap. 17M for Conforto?

For now but with signing bonus and deferrals that every one gets from the Dodgers these days the present day value will probably drag it down to more inline with what we thought.

MLBTR projected him for just 9M (18/2) but Kiley had him at 15M. I agree 17M seems high, I would have guessed in the 12-14M range

Coming off a 1.3 WAR season and some loud statcast numbers? Costs are astronomical. Santander is getting 5 years $125M at this rate.

So the list of viable everyday corner OFs is down to:

Soto

Santander

Hernandez

Profar

Can't overstate how badly we need one

I was all over Conforto and Snell this offseason and sure enough, the best franchise in sports validates my thinking by signing them.

If it wasn’t for my lengthy criminal record and alcohol and narcotics addictions, I would be working in an MLB front office easily.

Not even just the 1 mediocre season. His last really good season was the short 2020 season. Conforto is such a limited player. Really bad defender even on a corner spot. Below-average runner. Has to sit against tough lefties. Doesn't mash righties like Pederson who has a similar skill set.

Austin Hays, if you forgive his illness riddled 2024, has always been a fairly productive OF bat. I think he's one of the better buy low candidates this off season. Surely goes for much better value than Conforto

MLB network saying it's down to Toronto and the Mets for Soto.

Saw another post that says the Mets are approaching 800 million offer.

Grain of salt of course. We know how people love clicks when there's something to click about

Good for him

And now all the speculation of what the Jays offer was can start. Did they outbid and he just turned them down because of made up reasons to be mad at??

No deferrals. Wow. Jays probably had to get to $800m to beat that, and there's no guarantee Cohen wouldn't have just matched that too. He was always going to be a Met.

No deferred money wow

If that's true, good god that's a massive overpay.

51 million AAV

. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the deal includes a $75MM signing bonus, while Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that Soto’s deal contains an opt-out after the 2029 season.
