Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Most people were on board with Bellinger on a one year deal rebuilding his value. Never wanted to sign him an extension. Especially considering his underlying numbers.

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 A bit surprised Cole opted out of 4/144. Elbow issues this year, and he was a bit less dominant than normal. Not convinced he'd beat that on the FA market

Not convinced he'd beat that on the FA market The way it works is the Yankees can now enforce an option for a 5th year to make the contract 5/180. DeGrom signed for 5/185 so 5/180 is reasonable
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 AA re-signed Reynaldo and Bummer and shift money to '26, saves money for this offseason.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2024 Posted November 2, 2024 Ha-Seong Kim opts out. Nice target for the Jays, can play everywhere Always been high on him. Just needed to get out of San Diego. He has sneaky pop, will take a walk, and can run on top of that defensive versatility.

This FO loves positional versatility so I could see it.

Has some decent pop & speed and can take a walk. Can play him at 2B or 3B this season and then move him over to short once Bo is gone.

Not convinced he'd beat that on the FA market Yankees might be better putting that money towards someone like Corbin Burnes and/or Blake Snell. Both are younger and coming off better seasons.

DeGrom signed for 5/185 so 5/180 is reasonable Rangers so far have only got 9 starts from deGrom over the last two seasons lol. Geez, he better make 25-30 starts in 2025 at least.

Is the gap in salary between the two worth the extra ... 5-10 OPS+ or WRC+ ? I'd pass on Kim but only because Ernie is here.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 Brewers love to piss off all their pending free agents don’t they.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 LMAO. The Brewers are even cheaper than the Athletics. Like geez, one of the best closers in the game. They're going to go to arbitration over 1M. Pick up the damn option at $10.5M! That's a steal for an arm like Devin Williams.

Laika Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Gerrit Cole is stupid but the Yankees just might be stupider
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Gerrit Cole is stupid but the Yankees just might be stupider Would be pretty funny if the Yanks call his bluff and he ends up with the 2023 Snell contract
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I didn't realize Cole was already 34. Giving him 5/180 at his age is a pretty big risk. I think the Yankees will end up doing it though.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Would be pretty funny if the Yanks call his bluff and he ends up with the 2023 Snell contract I would not be surprised to see the Yankees walking away from the contract.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Maybe the likeliest outcome is the Yankees and Cole just figure out a new term entirely He opted out of 4/$144 Yankees have the option of doing 5/$180 Maybe they go to him and say "hey we will give you the $180 but we want to do it over 7 years" Might not make much difference to Cole. Odds are he is cooked or just a problematic injury prone dude at 39 anyway.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I'd be shocked if he's not dealt Yup, this is the Brewers' MO. They did it with Hader, and they won't be afraid to do it again with Williams. Trevor Megill has been quietly dominant for two seasons now, and they'll probably turn DL Hall into a dominant reliever since he can't stay healthy as a starter and is cheap.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Joe Kelly firing some nasty shots at the Yankees lol
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 It's hilarious to see all these reports and now players speaking out about how awful the Yankees defense was and how they knew it would bite them in the ass at some point and how it gave LA such an advantage. Yet when our own team (built on a great offense/poor defense) fails in 2021 and 2022 - our fans s*** on the GM for trying to change the makeup of the team to address the s***** defense - like it was the WRONG thing to do. The plan itself, to sacrificing some offense for defense, was a good idea. When you combined it with the offensive collapse of Vlad (2023), Kirk, Springer, etc. - it made it look like a massive over correct that failed miserably. That said - The Yanks were a few games away from winning it all - so in our SSS playoffs - even the teams with the massive hole in the armor can still win it all.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Joe Kelly firing some nasty shots at the Yankees lol Came here to post this. Does anyone think more of Joe Kelly than Joe Kelly? Dude had an ERA close to 5 in the regular season and threw 0 playoff innings and is talking all kinds of s***.
