Farhan's SFG tenure is confusing

He had a lot of resources but operated as if he was the Rays GM half the time

It seemed like he had a mandate from ownership to be responsible, prudent, and build a "sustainable winner" like they did not want to shove all their chips in, ever

Then ownership just hands the team to Buster Posey and friends and gives them a blank cheque?

In a way he had the same issues as the Blue Jays front office. He couldn't convince any of the true premium free agents of the sport to take their money (Judge, Ohtani etc.).

Yeah they have basically been the Blue Jays west

I really disagree with this.

They had 1 GREAT season in 2021 (how the f*** did they win 107 games?). Their next best season was .500 and they've only been at or over .500 twice in the last 8 seasons. The team hasn't had many impact prospects or young players over the last 4-5 seasons either.

s***, last I saw he was soft tossing, this looks like he's going almost full out, this is a month ago

RiP Fernando Valenzuela.

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela has died after being admitted to a hospital earlier this month for an unspecified health problem, the Dodgers confirmed Tuesday.

Valenzuela was 63 years old.

Terrible news in advance of the World Series. A Dodger legend.

Anyone that followed baseball in 1981 will never forget Fernandomania

Was it similar to Nomo-mania?

They are just prone to mania in LA. Is that so much of a surprise?

Check swing challenges coming soon?

Would be nice to actually have a defined written rule in what a check swing is, rather than an ump’s judgement of “yup that’s a swing”

100%. I'd imagine they need to do that first before they allow challenges...

Notice how MLBN uses RA9 WAR, to show how well pitchers are worth. *pats back*

Of course, they have to use the dumbed-down version of stats for you casuals

How much will Soto get this off season?

Flom listening to Blair and Barker and Morosi - the feeling is that he will get more than Ohtani on an AAV basis. $600m is a starting point - the Dodgers are said to be in on him and the Mets will possibly go to $800m with deferrals.

Morosi and Barker agree that the problem in Toronto is that the best teams have three aircraft carriers while the Jays only have one (Vlad). For the Jays to make up ground they need two - and they both agreed that Alonso looks cooked (slow bat) and is NOT a guy you want to sign. When you look at LA - and you look at the Jays you really see a lot of holes - even with all their injuries and with us at full strength - they'd flatten us.

Barker has been beating a drum that the Jays need to big thumpers and an elite closer (Romano is a possible DFA at $7.5m and bad arm). Basically, the exact same thing we needed last year.

Morosi still getting air time on Canadian TV/media is insane given the Ohtani situation.

Yep. That scumbag should be extradited to Canada and jailed for his actions during the Ohtani saga.

He should be publicly shamed.

Daniel Hudson announced his retirement last night. Anyone who's read The Arm knows he went through hell, blowing his UCL in his first game back from TJS. Ended up up having a very solid career.

Good for him man. Despite all the injuries, he found a way to play a huge part in a couple of World Series victories. He was effective right up until the end and he walks away as a champion. That's a nice way to go.

Being the pitcher on the mound to clinch a WS win and getting the final out via K has to be one of the greatest feelings ever.

A great career indeed. Winning a second WS before retiring is gravy

Not sure what the money situation is but Soler has two years left on a fairly sizable deal and Canning has 1 year left and should be pretty cheap. I'd rather have Canning.
