John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Author Posted October 4, 2024 I thought the Reds could have been a sleeper team in the NL Central this season. Let's see if Terry can be one of the missing pieces. The biggest missing piece in Cincinatti is payroll.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Yeah didn't he get cancer and retire? He could’ve found out his marriage works better with half the time on the road. Or the old adage, even if you’re lottery rich, you can’t not work. There aren’t many less labor intensive than a baseball manager. Something like a security guard that just sits there and watches a video monitor. I’m not mocking as I would likely be Sparky Anderson for sure, until the end
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Apparently Tito didn't have cancer....he underwent surgeries to replace his right shoulder and repair a double hernia. And in 2017, he underwent a cardiac ablation for an irregular heartbeat. "I'm doing fine," Francona told Courtney Finnicum on the podcast. "I'm actually like a year removed from any surgeries, which is always a good thing. And being away from the game, I was able to kinda watch my diet a little. Things that you don't do when you're kinda going 24/7. I had lost some much needed weight. Probably have a ways to go there, but still, it helps you feel better. So I feel good, which is a nice feeling for once. Because there was a couple years there where it was kinda hard. I was kinda dragging my leg around, or worried about my heart. I suspect he just wants to manage again. A shame we couldn't lure him to TO.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Just to be clear, managers matter but coaches don’t? Honestly - I don't think Managers make a HUGE difference, but I do believe in placebo effects and I do think bringing in a guy like Tito would have benefited the Jays in 2025 - if they are "going for it". I don't know that going from Guillermo Martinez to Connor Dawson or Kevin Long is going to have a massive impact.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 I thought he had retired Same.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Mets are starting Senga in Game 1. Senga threw 15 pitches Sept 21 and 25 pitches in live batting practice on Monday. Hmmmmm...

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 First time through helps for a couple innings. Ya it will be short, still rather curious
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 90 prospects shoved a 100 MPH or better this past season, lol. That's insane.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Brent Rooker played for essentially the entire year with pain, lol, impressive. That via the A's skip...

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 OT: As a troll to myself, I mentioned on here a while back how I laid out of a bunch of money on premium UFC tickets with my son for this weekend. I paid 2x what I would if I got them today. Trying not to let get to me, but not happy
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Ohtani ball a drama filled mess lol. Court battle. As predicted, it’s already up to $1.7m and will probably be $3m at the end, easy. “Experts saying it’ll be worth $500k”…pssh.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Good thing the Rays aren't in the playoffs. Apparently the roof was just ripped to shreds at Tropicana Field.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Good thing the Rays aren't in the playoffs. Apparently the roof was just ripped to shreds at Tropicana Field. Sounds like an improvement already

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Sorry I should refer to them as linespeople
