Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I stated last year that I wish the Jays did more at the trade deadline to address the issues in the lineup for the Postseason. Never once criticized their rotation or bullpen last season and even said that's a strength. They definitely were a team that could have went on a run, but without any improvements to the lineup, didn't have my hopes high. I didn't expect that bats to all of a sudden turn around at Game 163 after they struggled heavily over 162 games. As well, nothing wrong in discussing the strengths of the D'Backs roster from last Postseason. Seems like when you talk about the strengths or have any discussion regarding any team, some of you lose it and freak out! But I thought the DBacks were a special team that was deserving of the World Series appearance? Wouldn't a team like that at least make the playoffs the following year?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Buddy, you and your pals told me that I was wrong for saying all you have to do is get into the playoffs and anything can happen. You and others tried to walk this ridiculous tightrope where you claimed the D-Bags were some sort of special 84 win team that was built to make the WS and that the Jays weren't built in a way that would allow them to ever advance. Well guess what? The D-Backs continue to prove me right. And so have the Rangers for that matter. Both weren't that good last year but they merely got in and now neither is even in the playoffs. I expect full heartfelt apologies from all of you. I can't search thisnsite worth a crap bur I said something like "the dbacks could very well win more games in 2024 than they did in 2023 and not make the playoffs" Can't recall the exact context but it was very likely an argument about what you're talking about. When other team squeak into the WC, it's because they're really good teams, but when the Jays do it 3 years in a row, who cares its just the WC, WC rounds aren't even really playoffs...or whatever else.

AMS528 Verified Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 2.4 WAR last season but yeah, they could definitely use an upgrade at SS next season. Do the Braves have a potential package for Bo? They have drafted enough pitchers having decent to great seasons this year that they could definitely put together a package. AA stockpiling pitching prospects for deals as he's done forever.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 No Strider, or Acuna. No Harris for a third of the season, no Riley for the last third run along with some other injuries. Braves deserve credit, both for the players who stepped up and AA for the depth he built.

Yeah I don't think the Blue Jays would be able to even come close if they had all the injuries and bad luck the Braves had this season. Like heck, the Blue Jays lost the fewest games to the IL as BigCecil stated. This team just wasn't built well enough this season, that's the reality. The front office did a poor job. The Jays didn't suck because they lost Romano and because Swanson was awful. Yes it didn't help the cause, but they're not excuses.

Stop changing the narrative. Nobody said the Jays were awful in 2022 or 2023. They were solid teams, though most of the criticism was that the front office did very little to address the issues plaguing those teams, when it was evident over a large chunk of the season that they had to improve in certain areas, but didn't. The Jays did it three years in a row? I thought they missed the Postseason by one game in 2021?

You're crapping on teams that were better than the Jays this season which is hilarious after numerous times saying that those teams would suck before the season started. Stop taking the blue pill or else you'll continue to remain in a state of blissful ignorance when it comes to this organization!

The Blue Jays bullpen sucked directly as a result of Romano missing the season and Swanson turning into a turd early in the season. Add in injuries/missed time to Green and Garcia in the early stages and Mayza losing his stuff and you have one of MLB's worst bullpens, which is the biggest reason why the team was as bad as they were. The team was awful in one run games, and a lot of this is directly due to not having enough relievers who could reliably retire major league hitters for the entire season.

You're really misconstruing my arguments here but I agree that there is no reason to beat a dead horse I'd wish your two favorite teams, the Orioles and Braves, the best of luck but as we know, the playoffs aren't a crapshoot at all and luck has nothing to do with it Instead, I'll merely send good vibes to the FO's of both teams and hope that they followed the 2023 Diamondbacks team building blueprint, which I've been told is the secret (or perhaps unexplainable) recipe for success Cheers

The guy that was a Top 5 Dynasty draft pick. If he was even ok, they win a couple more games. There’s no football spiking here

This is the Around Baseball thread and the guy just wanted to give props to the Braves and AA for battling through a difficult season. And of course you have to pull it back to your hate for Atkins eh? Are you OK?
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Just stumbled on former Mets GM saying that if he didn't trade for Lindor, that he was coming here and would have been extended. Damn

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Hey good news...ish. MLB reverting to previous years jerseys, which will be in effect for the road greys as of next year with the home whites to be fixed on the go throughout the season with everything back to "normal", including the larger name lettering by 2026. Also going back to players wearing their team jerseys for the AS game.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 When was the last time both WS teams from the previous season missed both missed the postseason the next year? At least since the wildcard era, that must be very rare. Unlike when only 4 division winners made it.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Just stumbled on former Mets GM saying that if he didn't trade for Lindor, that he was coming here and would have been extended. Damn I wonder who would have been included in a trade package?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 So Toronto struck out on (and came very close to acquiring) Lindor, JRam, Ohtani. Those are all pretty much confirmed now. Imagine the team outlook with one of those guys signed long-term. Sigh.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Go get him. 5 year contract.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I wonder who would have been included in a trade package? At the time, our biggest specs were Pearson, Manoah, Groshans, SWR and Martin. Likely a couple of those guys plus some lower tier dudes, which at time included names like Kirk, Orelvis, Hiraldo, Moreno, and Kolffenstein.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 First game isn’t til 2:30 tomorrow?? Dafuq?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 First game isn’t til 2:30 tomorrow?? Dafuq? MLB times during the WC and DS series always suck. Not sure why they can't put like two games on at 6 and 7PM, while the other two games at 9PM and 10PM, especially with one being in San Diego. Blue Jays would always get the worst times I remember, which would also hurt ticket resale values.

Seems MLB is smartening up a tad
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I selfishly wanted to watch baseball at 12 since I work from home
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 I missed this - why was the final Houston/Cleveland game cancelled? Was it rained out? Feel bad for JRam not getting his shot at 40/40.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Lindor deserves a lot of credit. His bat was trending down and it looked like he was in danger of becoming guy who relied a lot of his defense for value - something we know typically declines in the early 30's. After a rough first year in NY, he's now produced 3 incredible seasons and is well on his way to becoming a HOF player and a NY Mets legend.
Josh Kasevich Buffalo Bisons - AAA SS Kasevich tallied 3 hits on Thursday including his 17th double. He's now hitting .303 on the season. Explore Josh Kasevich News >
