I don't disagree with that but I do think that how AA built 2015-2016 was terribly short sighted and it really sours me to his legacy, instead of burning almost all of his prospect capital on the Marlins and Dickey trades in 2013 he likely could have built a team equally as competitive but sustained the winning for years longer by just waiting a season or two if he didn't for whatever reason decide that the 2012 team wasn't a 73-89 team but was a team that had a true talent of 80 something wins instead of legitimately being a true talent low 70s win team.

I personally feel that Atkins has been a better GM than AA was while AA was with Toronto, but AA is obviously a much better GM today than Atkins is.

One thing AA did very well was build up again. He did leave this team with Jansen, Vlad, Mayza and Romano and the scouts who fought for Bo.

I don't even know what the Jays (and the rest of the AL East) can hope for at this point, to keep Baltimore from just winning the division every year from 2025 on.

Maybe that the new ownership group is kinda dumb and they f*** up some trades or signings? Mets style?

I dunno

2024, because they are still so young, there's probably still a chance for the other teams to win the division over them

Best case scenario would be that the dude turns out to be a meddlesome owner like Arte Moreno, and they tie up a billion dollars in guys like Bellinger, Chapman, etc.

Very happy that people are now correctly using Bellinger as an example of a bad contract. Terminator and BTS have pulled back in front of Jim and his side in the Bellinger wars, and I don’t see that changing.

Belly had far too much risk for 80M guaranteed.

They are, but that also makes managing to not win a game in three years quite the feat.

Perhaps it just means we're due for a little luck :)

You are very premature.

I'm not so sure I agree with that. $150M to $200M? Absolutely.

He basically signed a 1 year deal for 80M guaranteed, far too much risk, Brownie. I was glad we weren't in on that s***.

Are you suggesting this because if he goes back to sucking balls, he won't opt out and thus will get $80M over 3 years? If he's good this year, it's a 1 year, $27.5M deal.

If he's really good this year, nothing wrong with paying him $27.5M and maybe you have a leg up in re-signing him.

If he's 2.5 WAR player this year and doesn't opt out and give you another 5 WAR over the last 2 years of the deal, that's not a crippling deal (7.5 WAR for $80M/3 years)

If he's a 1-1.5 WAR player this year and moving forward, then yes, it's a really s***** deal.

Yes, to the former. The risk wasn't worth it, IMO. Wanted no part of him or Chappy.

Yeah - I get it. I would have liked to see something that gave the Cubs a bit more advantage if Bellinger was a 5 WAR stud this year (beyond just getting a 5 WAR stud for 1 year $27.5M)

What's honestly impressive to me is their record in later-round picks. Like obviously Rutschman, Kjerstad, and Holliday were top-of-the-draft talents only they had access to, but every team passed on Henderson, Norby and Mayo and other O's top prospects. It's reminiscent of the ability the Dodgers have had for almost a decade now being able to identify and develop talent despite picking in the backend of the draft.

I was hoping Shapiro/Atkins regime would be better at that after a strong start picking Biggio and Bichette in the 2016 draft, but we just haven't been able to keep up. I'm not sure if there's misalignment between our draft folks and player development folks or we've just been straight unlucky since it is a bit of a crapshoot.

Also crazy to think that the O's are looking like they are about to hit on almost EVERY top pick they had for the past 5 years:

2018: Gray-Rod (early signs that he can be a top of the rotation arm, provided he can stay healthy)

2019: Rutschman (looking like a perennial all-star/MVP candidate)

2020: Kjerstad (absolutely raking in the minors and should be good)

2021: Cowser (raked in the minors, hot start this season)

2022: Holliday (should be an elite player)

Even the Astro's fumbled some picks during their bad years (Brady Aiken, Mark Appel). They ended up being fine in the long run, but tanking teams don't always have a spotless track record in the top of the draft

Fawning over the O's is so gauche.

What's wrong with Nightengale? lol

Luis Robert Jr. (hip) trending toward six weeks

White Sox’ general manager Chris Getz told reporters on Friday that Luis Robert Jr. (hip) is trending toward a six-week absence.

Advice: The timeline that the club gave earlier in the week was that the 26-year-old superstar would miss around 6-8 weeks, so it’s encouraging to hear that he’s trending toward the quicker side of that return. It’s much more optimistic than the 3-4 months that Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the White Sox had mentioned privately. Barring any setbacks, it sounds like he could be back in action before the end of May.

Daniel Bard To Undergo Season-Ending Flexor Tendon Surgery

By Darragh McDonald | April 12, 2024 at 4:31pm CDT

Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard will require surgery on the flexor tendon in his throwing arm and will miss the rest of the season. Thomas Harding of MLB.com was among those to relay the news. Bard is already on the 15-day injured list after undergoing an arthroscopic knee procedure in February but he’ll now be destined for the 60-day IL whenever the Rockies need his roster spot for someone else.

I was at a recent Hartford Yardgoat game and the AA Orioles were playing. They got destroyed. Basallo did not look too impressive.

I saw Baby Vlad at the same stadium in 2018 and he was impressive. Like his foul balls almost hit the Hartford Group Deer Statue, his line drive outs almost took the left fielders glove off. His double down the line was also 115 mph.

Basallo (1 game) was all soft useless contact and a suprisingly weak looking guy with a lot of soft contact.

That being said I don't believe in fans being able to super scout, so based on the Orioles track record I predict Basallo will have end up being the bat we wanted Vlad to be.

Congratulations to the Orioles for creating the greatest franchise ever... 100 wins a year for 20 years straight? 8 world series titles? 6 hall of famers? So much joy, so much happiness for a generation of Orioles fans to look forward to.

The Beavers guy also did not look impressive, and they played a kind of dirty dirty 'Two beavers are better than one' song when he came up.

Prediction.

Vlad release day, the Bo Trade and Jackson Holliday's rookie of the year award, and Rutchman's MVP award will happen the same week. Pure unlimited joy without end for the Orioles fan base and pain for ours. Just the way the cookie crumbles.

For the record, I think Bellinger on that 3/80 contract is fine.

I’m saying he’s a potential landmine though if he has another solid year and opts out.

Of all the awful contracts the Rox have handed out over the past few years, this one might be the most puzzling

Basically what Brownie said. 3/80 for Bellinger is fine, worth the risk that he still sucks. 6/150 is not worth the risk, even if he has a good 2024

Too much risk, man. They'll be stuck with s***** Belly for years.

I think we heard you the first 500 times you spouted this nonsense.
