Another one bites the dust

Yet another worst case scenario

wow the injuries, ^the pitch clock could be a factor; doubt we will ever find out for sure the cuase. Maybe just too much stress on that part of the arm

I think the Jays were better off rolling the dice on a player with more offensive upside, even if it meant a bit more risk.

If they were going to do that then Bellinger made the most sense

I wonder what if any firm offer they actually made him

Yep. And I bet they never made a formal offer, because they signed KK way too early and at the time his asking price was still 200 million.

Too much risk, 80M guaranteed is nuts for Belly.

Thanks, man! I've tried Baseball Reference but I don't much care for the layout. Baseball Savant seems awesome tho, I'll try rolling with that.

also Fangraphs is acceptable to use unless you're trying to create custom reports and you haven't purchased a membership - if that's the case then yea it's not usable. I use the Brave browser with internal ad blocking turned on and it's been fine

If it's bothering you, you could just pay for a membership for $60 / year (I assume that's USD?). If you use the site enough, it's probably going to be worth it for you over the alternatives.

Yeah, I considered it, but I just can't justify that right now.

I haven't had much problems in the past on FG's with Firefox and Adblock, but this year it's just been a nightmare to use. I'll try using Brave, thanks for the tips.

because they made a change this year - they're trying to get people signed up - don't blame them but it's not for everyone

Gameday is interesting between innings. You can see the players throwing the ball around while the pitcher is warming up.

Yes and I sure prefer that to the stupid ads that Sportsnet shows 100 times a game

Was referring to more of a guy like Teo Hernandez, O'Neill, Pederson, Duvall, Gallo etc. who could play a corner OF position and offer more pop on a short-term deal. Could have even created a viable platoon.

Maybe Soler at 3 years for $42M would have been the exception. Hoskins or JDM would have had to DH.

I wouldn't have handed $80M guaranteed to Bellinger.

At this point, due diligence in any form is welcome. But the cause of the problem, at least, is not as complicated as it might appear. Dr. Keith Meister, the Texas Rangers’ head team physician and one of the game’s leading orthopedic surgeons, identified the right target in an interview last month.

“These front offices, unfortunately, are living more in the moment than taking a longer, broader-term view,” Meister said. “There is a way to manage this. What if a guy doesn’t have a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.8? What if he has a WHIP of 1.1 but he’s able to play 162?”

Front offices aren’t asking those questions. In emphasizing performance over availability, they’re cycling through pitchers as if they are old pairs of spikes, used up and discarded. Club officials will be the first to tell you they do not want pitchers hurt. Of course they don’t. But injuries are the unintended consequence of their fixation on short-term results.

The league, then, must intervene, just as it did when front offices — again, in the pursuit of optimal performance — implemented defensive shifts that sucked the life of the sport. Where this gets difficult is in trying to determine how to fix the problem.

Couldn't MLB, if they wanted to, deaden the ball and incentivize pitching to contact again?

Wouldnt this problem fix it self? Pitchers are going to reel back from throwing so hard at such a young age as injuries keep piling up and front offices are going to stop signing pitchers to such long term deals if they're so fragile.

No, because we are going on two decades of this. People have been chasing velocity for that long and injuries keep rising.

Fringe pitchers don't even mind getting hurt while on the MLB roster. Some of them celebrate it. That's a year of MLB pay.

And if they don't chase velo and extreme stuff, they just won't make the majors.
