Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 That's not obvious at all. Going to trial and being found not guilty would be much worse than the police deciding they don't have enough evidence to bring charges against him to begin with. From a PR POV which is what this discussion is about, being able to say found not guilty would be an easier pushback against the Bauer haters. The public wouldn't grasp or pay attention to the nuance you give.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Lawyer Jim wins another case! We are talking about PR here mate, not legal.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 But is Travis Bauer even good anymore? His K9 in Japan was less than during his MLB career. He only won 10 games over there. He is now 33 years old. That's also true. He could be washed.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 huh anyone with a functioning brain would have realized the possibilities/risks before engaging the first time. it's not like this is 1965 and backhanding a woman is just now becoming mildly unpopular. Bauer has a career-long history of antisocial behaviour. Long before any of this s***, he was being traded by teams that thought he was uncoachable, and getting into fights or disagreements with coaches and other players. if anything, he has a pattern of being a ******** so should be seen as more likely to be a ******** again! I don’t buy this logic. Not well thought out. Par for the course for the source. You don’t think there’s professional athletes across the leagues that don’t do lines of coke off some hooker’s boobs? That dont smack their wife? You think everyone is like “oh I’m an athlete, this isn’t smart”. Dumb ass take
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Tatis probably roughed her up too. He probably hadn’t signed his deal yet. It’s likely she said she’s like to rough

Dumb ass take Yeah dude, 99.9% of people don't do this s*** at all and if they do they understand it could jeapordize whatever career they have. You are a cretin and you work in hospitality but have you ever donkey punched a girl while she was unconscious? Probably not, right? Majority of baseball players are God, Guns, and Family types.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 If found guilty there is no way any team anywhere would want him. Probably not even the Mexican league would want to be associated with a known and guilty pedophile. Very different from Bauers situation where he was not found guilty of anything. You would think a team desperate enough for pitching who DGAF about the retarded public outcry would sign him. Mexico took a true kiddy diddler. He ended up sucking. Guy from Texas Tech? Or whatever national champion in college. Actually lol.. that one is also grey but let’s not go there. Can you be a pedophile at 14? I think it was 14/6 and he stuck a finger is 6yo cousin. Was never going to play mlb for it

Yeah - I don't know if being religious keeps you out of trouble. Franco was probably religious.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Nah. Saw that clip and it was total theatre. I mean actually accepting partial responsibility and realizing what a douchebag it makes him look like. He said the words because he had to, not because he thinks they were true. That's what is holding him back. You of all people should recognize the obvious sociopathic tendencies in Bauer. He's not actually capable of feeling sorry I imagine just as you and I see it different, people would interpret it diff. You dont think if he could reverse time, he wouldn’t take it back? He definitely regrets every minute of it even if not guilty
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 But is Travis Bauer even good anymore? His K9 in Japan was less than during his MLB career. He only won 10 games over there. He is now 33 years old. You went with Wins to build your case?
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Yeah - I don't know if being religious keeps you out of trouble. Franco was probably religious. But that doesn't stop them from being holier-than-thou and not wanting to work with the guys who get caught
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Yeah I think several of the AL or NL Central teams make sense. The Texas teams and the Rays too. The Browns signed DeShaun Watson to a mega deal and his accusations are much more concrete. Bauer can be had for an incentive-laced one year deal. Yeah, I’ve parroted that Watson thing and have to hear Spanky wet his underpants over it, but it just goes to show that really there’s not the blowback you’d think. So it leads you to believe there’s an intent for MLB to keep a certain image and the owners know to hold the line for what they think is good for the sport

I’m not sure the typical god, guns, and family type of man is any less likely to not like hookers, or smack their girlfriend. There would have to be a study? Also. I mean if you want to be a realist and talk stereotypes, Latino men is prime time. Which is a lot of ballplayers. You just miss all over. Bet your toilet is usually surrounded by an orange semi circle

It's very different.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 The NFL simply don't give a f***, meat. It's very different. To be fair - it also doesn't seem to have much impact on the NFL, which does make me question why MLB is so focused on a clean image. The NFL is bizarre. "me too" like 25 girls - high paid player in the league. Kneel for an anthem in a silent protest - cancelled immediately.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 The NFL simply don't give a f***, meat. It's very different. Well, there you go. The NFL don’t give a f***. So the teams line up to trade for a sexual predator. Does mlb care? Do they care enough to work with owners about keeping a certain image? That’s the discussion at hand, yank off

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 That's obvious. Well, Holly f***ing Lula. We agree on something

The Browns signed DeShaun Watson to a mega deal and his accusations are much more concrete. Bauer can be had for an incentive-laced one year deal. you can't compare sports. Baseball holds itself on a pedestal and in turn their fans hold it as "American as apple pie" like "American" is supposed to be a positive. But regardless there are things that happen in baseball which don't happen in the other sports. As for the Bauer situation. There is a former agent on tiktok who was talking about the situation. now take this with a grain of salt as he has had a very public feud with Rachel Luba. However, he says that Bauer has already been told by the 30 teams that they wouldn't signed him for the league minimum. All the "you can have Snell for X Dollars, or me for league Min" is pandering to gain public support for future seasons (like Baseball actually cares what the fans think).

Why is baseball the only sport that has a rule posted in every locker room about gambling? why is baseball the only sport that won't institute a salary cap? "america's pastime" is the answer. It likes to portray itself as above all else. There is more to it than that but it continues to survive, although not grow, partially because of it's image.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Baseball markets itself to families and especially kids. Take your kid to the ballgame and all that. NFL not so much, if at all. The PR considerations are not the same.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Hader has taken so much s*** for this from fans, but he's right. Imagine busting your ass with elite 2-3 inning outings in a fireman role and then the team f***s you in arb because you don't have saves.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Hader is correct 1000% he is. Again - it's f***ing embarrassing that the MLB arbitration system still acts like it's 1995.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Collusion or cooperation? Collusion implies something improper, illegal, etc.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2024 Author Posted February 9, 2024 Hader has taken so much s*** for this from fans, but he's right. Imagine busting your ass with elite 2-3 inning outings in a fireman role and then the team f***s you in arb because you don't have saves. It's stuff like this that never makes me think the player shouldn't try to get every dime they can out of the owners. The owners will always try to pay less for talent, regardless of how important that talent is. I don't even fault them for that, it's just good business to try and get more for less, but they can't act like it isn't a two-way street. This idea that employees and contractors "must" do everything asked of them but only accept the lowest wage the employer is willing to bestow on them as a result is lunacy.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 To be fair - if I'm running a league, or own a team in the league, that's probably good image to strive for. Is it though? Considering everything as competition, it's not going to attract the best athletes to you if they think that "a mistake" will cost them their career It's not growing in female fans, and they have to be so worried about everything because their sponsors will actually leave them if there is a product controversy. They have elevated themselves as higher than the other leagues (while falling behind NBA in fanbase, which the NBA fumbled), the fall is potentially greater. Baseball's business plan is just more fragile than the other sports because of their fanbase and how they have marketed themselves.
